AMG Look up Not Functioning with rips in HDX

Posted by: AudioSavant on 01 January 2014

Out of the blue...or so it seems, not a single CD i placed within the drive to rip was recognized by AMG.  Mainstream Jazz titles mostly, with  a few newer titles.  Seems like the HDX dwells for what seems like an inordinate amount of time trying to recognize the CD, then the AMG notation pops up for less than a second and immediately goes to FreeDB look, and after a while, then rips using Free DB.
I am VERY tired of manually scanning the cover art & pasting into the HDX.  I just did this evening,
Antonio Hart, Chet Baker, Gerry Mulligan, John Faddis, Gypsy Kings, Oscar Peterson, and Santana...And the system didn't recognize a one!  Doesn't seem right!
I am running 1.6d
Also had really strange non-recognized or improperly recognized disc's yesterday.  Cal Tjader, Lee Ritnour,  Mulligan, and about 10 others that seems like mainstream pressings.  (all from FreeDb)

Does anyone know if an issue with AMG?
*Had same issue the last two days.
Thanks!

Sounds like your HDX is not connected to the internet...

Thanks, seems like that is an issue!  Working fine on the intranet, and never thought to check if data was going outside of the local network.  Now the real work begins, as I can't for the life of me figure out why it isn't working.  I used to have Cat-5 direct to router w/o issue, but now through 5 port D-Link
Gigabit switch, with some other gear added into the mix.  Strange that the BRYSTON SP-3 pre-amp on the same switch is definitely seeing the outside world, as I have done eprom updates.
Any ideas why HDX is off line ?
Thank you!

Hi,

I'm sorry, but I'm not that good when it comes to networking. My first guess would be that it might have something to do with IP addresses, maybe others might be able to jump in...

It sounds like you have stated for your hdx to find its DNS addresses via the router, perhaps the switch has spooned that up.

So just give it some dns address with the IP tool, 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (google) will do you.

Thanks, but It would appear that it was/ is an issue with new Verizon provided router/modem that doesn't play nice with some gear.  I changed settings within NAIM HDX from static ip and it connected fine...which is bizarre as it was always on a fixed ip.  Maybe now I know why, whenever I connected a NaimNet amp, it through me off system.  No conflicts on ip addressing as the router grabbed and used used same ip address as I had previously relegated to the HDX.  So my 255.255.255. settings were right.
Still doesn't answer why SO MANY albums immediately get metadata from AMG via Windows Media site, yet, after hard search within HDX via AMG online, then 'free db' I have zippo!  I have in front of me 50+ CD's of an assortment of mainstream jazz, some pop, a few dance that were not recognized with tagged metadata through HDX or AMG...YET as soon as I pop some of them in my PC, voila ! Success!
Worse yet, is the few MAINSTREAM CD's that the HDX completely doesn't read!

Anyway, C'est la vie!
