Cataloging ripped CD'S from HDX to an EXCEL database

Posted by: AudioSavant on 01 January 2014

Does anyone know if there is a way to create a database (i.e. Excel), to list all the CD'S one has on
the HDX & or the NAS, either from individual Stores, or Network Shares?
It doesn't seem like you can does this in Naim Software package, but maybe someone makes a third party applet.  Sort of surprised I haven't seen this topic before.  Yes you can search pretty well on the HDX , and it is very easy, and one of the best GUI's around, but I don't see a way to export the basic database information of what you ripped.  (Sorry, but I am old school, and still prefer to read a chart from paper if possible)!  Then one can tell what albums need to be placed on the HDX, without redundantly copying the same discs.

Thanks

Hi, I don't know if it's possible to do that directly from HDX, but good idea is to have your HDX image copied elswhere on some storage like NAS as you mention. If so, there is nothing easier. Any better tagging software consist the funcionality you want. You can export to .xls, .csv, txt and so on from the tags and if you are not sure if your music copy on your HDX is completely tagged or not, you can still export it in .txt file not by tags, but by folder name and be sure that all of your music is exported. You can do that from command prompt, for example, say your backup HDD is under letter 'X'.

X:\my_hdx_backup_folder>dir * /AD > my_music_export_file.txt

Good luck

I will have a go at this.  I would really like to have a text or excel version of a list of my albums to look at offline (for instance to browse through when trying to work out if I already have the album).

Or to merge with a database of all my LPs.  Maybe if enough people ask for it, Naim can add an "export database" function to the Desktop Client.  Any format will do, but preferably XML, artist/album/track data plus metadata.

In the Apple world you can use an app that is called cdpedia for a mac and sync your data with the app pocketpedia for idevices. If you use itunes cdpedia detects your albums at your computer. As far as I know you can also import data from a txt or csv file.

Have a look at collectorz.com

I have this and it searches your system, inc nas and catalogues your entire music system.

I bought this for the very same reason, to have a list of albums. Unfortunately having over 7000 albums, a printed list runs into multiple pages and not that handy when shopping. Ended up using the soft opy list o check what i have.

Nevertheless the software does what the OP asks and is worth checking out

Glad to see I am not the only one who thinks this is sort of a normal progression of viewing
and cataloguing one's list, for posterior sake, and obviously as mentioned above to see what holes are possibly missing.  Who knows, you might want to find the 11th. version of Dark Side of The Moon, as you peruse the web for new CD'S while sitting at your desk, supposedly working.
