upnp speaker/player with app!

Posted by: 2roomsor1 on 03 January 2014

I am trying to find a speaker (s) that i can just plug in, use some type of app (iPhone) that will read from the upnp on my hdx.

the qute works great in the kitchen, but in the garage/pump house (fish) its not the right solution.

and if another naim box arrives, i will get shot.

i have looked at libratone and audio pro type systems, but no joy.

i am not looking for high quality, just some light background music.

the building is too far to run an analogue and have a small powered set of something.  its a 1 or 2 box solution that i can use as a player for the hdx upnp.

any ideas?

KEF X300A, will also handle Apple's AirPlay

With a sonos play and bridge you could use spotify or qobuz - no need to read from the hdx!

the kef x300a are what i was originally looking at, but they don't look like they will work directly from my hdx.

i thought about a sonos, but the subscription is something that i don't want.

however the qobuz looks interesting, can you download albums to own?

will check out the eclipse later

thanks all.

This suggestion is probably a bit too basic, but it's what we have in the kitchen. It's a Roberts radio with music player. It plays music that lives on my UnitiServe very happily via wireless, and can of course get Internet radio too. It's not a Naim, but for £200 sounds very nice.

My daughter uses her I-Touch with a program like Media Connect to a Bluetooth speaker (Cambridge Minx Go) to play music from the Naim server anywhere in the house: cheap, portable, decent sound. BTW this app can also play the music from the I-Touch to a Naim player, wirelessly (a UPnP Airplay).

I use a B&W Zeppelin for a similar need. Works very well with Airplay and iTunes, but I more commonly connect it via an iPod Touch to the 8player app to play Flac music straight from the NAS. Not quite hi-fi but sounds nice, and dead simple to set up and use.

In the kitchen I use a Logitech Squeezebox Boom with a Yamaha subwoofer. Sounds very good for the money and has internet radio and some streaming clients (eg Pandora) as well as giving access to my my main collection via wireless upnp. May be discontinued now but I got both bits used off Ebay and they've been faultless for over 3 years now - £200 should cover it.
