Traveling Wilburys Box set - Opinions on box set please?

I am thinking about investing on this box set. Does anyone own a copy and would like to share their experiences?

Many thanks..

Tony

Tony,

I have the CD box set from 2007. It includes 2 CDs (the Volume 1 and Volume 3 LPs) and an excellent DVD that explains the creation of the band and how they collaborated to write several of their songs. It also contains a few music videos. Though not identified as such, the CDs play as HDCDs and sound absolutely superb. I'd say Volume 1 is probably the best sounding CD I own; so good that I prefer it to the vinyl copy I have. Each CD has 2 previously unreleased songs. There is also a funny booklet that explains the anonymous characters each of the band members assumed as The Traveling Wilburys.

Many bands have been touted as "superbands". The unpretentious Wilburys made no such claim yet are probably the only band I consider worthy of such a moniker. Even if you were looking for a vinyl box set I'd say that for $20 on amazon you absolutely cannot go wrong with this CD/DVD set. It certainly gave me a greater appreciation of a band I already held in very high esteem. It's a shame they did not have the opportunity to create more music together.

Hi, Joe.

That solunds extremely tempting although they are complete different sets. I know someone who is selling the sold out 3 X 180g vinyl for a reasonable price. Thanks for putting a spanner in the works.

Couldn't agree more with your assessment of their short colaboration. Not  a super band but a meeting of musical prowess.

Best regards and Happy New Year,

Tony

I have said LP boxed set. Wouldn't part with it for the world. Don't listen to it enough, though. Time for a play tomorrow methinks.

Just having a listen now: fresh, witty, and virtuosic. If you're a fan of any of this lot, then you have a bunch of world-class musicians in your living room playing for fun and communicating that in spades. Interesting acoustic reproduces well. Clear dynamic recording an my copy  (played about 10 times) still clean even at high volumes. Mine's the 2007 version, which judging from your photo is the same. Let us know if you go ahead and purchase.
