BLU-RAY AUDIO DISCS

Posted by: des hill on 04 January 2014

Has anybody had experience of these ?  A very interesting discussion on Radio 3 this morning, Seemingly superior to sacd, and with 24 bit far superior to conventional cd's.  Some on-line traffic concerning difficulties with formats and outputs of variuous kit (which I'll have to re-read a few times to fully understand).  Am thinking of getting one to try - using an Arcam Blu-ray player, with digital out to an ND5SX.  Am assuming that they won't be readable in a Unitiserve.

Dead in the water IMHO as a desperate attempt to preserve a physical medium.

As a format it will lose the fight to hi-res downloads if it survives the year that is.

I have ripped quite a few DVD-A and BR-DVDs to 2.0 stereo WAV 24/96, Steve Wilson being one of them. DVDAE works for me.

It seems there was a time when DVD-Audio was popular, about 10-15 years ago if you look at release dates, was a relative boom time for the format, Universal though has revived it with the Blu-Ray 24/96 Pure Audio releases.

Agree with Tog mind, downloads are the future really, I got my discs for the back catalogue (Tommy DVD-A, Metallica Black Album DVD-A, Quadrophenia Deluxe box set with DVD-A version etc) which some are now all coming to download market.

Some hires albums only exist on discs mind, Pink Floyd Immersion box sets with the Blu-Ray versions comes to mind.

Best

Thanks both for the responses, on reflection I think I'll hold-off on any discs until I've investigated/sampled some downloads.
