asset upnp for qnap
Posted by: balma01 on 12 January 2014
Since 1/1/2014 there's a beta version of asset upnp for qnap nas. See http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/sh...-Asset-UPnP-for-QNAP
Is anyone trying it?
Anyone who has a file which gives 'Chinese' tags, please visit dbpoweramp.com >> About >> Email and email one such file to us.
Must go and check which processor my QNAP 219 PII uses ... ah ... Marvel 2.0 Ghz processor, so not Intel, hence probably Asset not available for it. Bummer.
Perhaps someone could explain to me why the Asset for Linux (QNAP) is processor dependent? I'd always assumed that the compatibility of software was more to do with the operatings system than the processor.
The 219 is a x19 processor.
Asset is compiled to run on the hardware, instead of running in something (such as Java). This results in it being many times faster (perhaps 10 or 20 times faster).

Never really got into the hardware side of computers. Gave that up years ago, as all I was concerned about was whether the equipment (laptop, etc) I buy will do the job I want it to. So the above statement, alas, means virtually nothing to me, and I still don't know for sure whether that is an Intel processor as seems to be required. All I need to know is whether my 219 PII is compatible with the version of Asset being discussed here.
Nice to see your input here, BTW.
addendum :
Just had a quick peek on the dBpoweramp forums. Unless I am mistaken, my x19 processor is ARM, and the current beta should work. Could you verify this, and if so I will give it a go.
Yes 219 is a x19 ARM CPU
Also working well on my QNAP, installation was so easy. Thank you Spoon!
Just need the "browse tree" sorted as this is mega important to me and the way my library is presented. Hopefully next release which won't be too long
Browse tree now available
Installed Asset today on my QNAP but I can't work out how to configure it ... nSream recognises it but it has not been populated with any of my albums. Asset on my PC is populated with all of them. Has anyone any pointers to what to do?
Thanks
I tested yesterday the new asset UPNP trial version for QNAP.
It works very well maybe a little better and faster than Twonky and it has more Settings.
The converting on-the-fly from FLAC to WAV works perfectly, even to HI-RES FLAC and the CPU is not loaded.
The only problem is, I can not hear any difference, between the FLAC and the converted WAV.
I'm a little worried, have i a problem with my ears or the cause is the ND5?

The difference will not be huge. Using Minimserver and transcoding flac:wav24 I notice the music sounds, the best way to describe it, more fluid. Transcoding before it reaches the player just means the player has a little less work to do.

Indeed. Andrei, get those ears syringed immediately!
what QNAP are you using? I have a 412 with a measly 256MB RAM with which I have to be very careful with the amount of processes I have running on it or else the performance turns turgidly slow. (It took me a while to figure out the problem was with the NAS rather than Twonky or LMS.)
What sort of values are you getting to CPU and RAM usage for Asset on the QNAP?

Hi John,
I have 219 II with 2Ghz and 512 DDR3.
The asset needs 45 Mb of RAM,
1% of the CPU power at 44.1 kHz, 6% at 96 and 10% at 192 kHz.
Total: 8-25% of the CPU, and 43% of the RAM.

Therein lies the rub!
Doing nothing (well not streaming) I have 65MB free! I have disabled any apps I don't use.
I wish I had invested in a x19 or x69 variant, but for whatever reason I was not aware of any RAM issues having thought I'd done my homework well in advance.
Mind you I find if I keep it rebooting once a week automatically it runs LMS to SBT and Twonky to UniQute and WD TV without any (well too much) hassle.
