Naim streamers and PSD
Posted by: Gajdzin on 12 January 2014
Does any of NAIM streaming audio players support PSD? My ND5SX doesn't seem to, but maybe there's some trick to it...?
I mean Radio Paradise PSD.
Not directly -- not using nStream's internet radio input.
You could download the RP app to an iPhone/Pod/Pod and connect using your ND5 XS's USB port. This is one way of getting RP with a PSD button.
Another would be to run RP on a PC music server, and stream via UPnP. Asset, for example, has a "PC Sound Capture (WASAPI)" option for redirecting the PC's standard output to UPnP. You could then use either a keyboard and monitor, or a remote control device (e.g., a tablet running VNC) to hit RP's PSD button.
Hook
Thank you, Hook. That makes sense.
NAIM, if you are reading this, please include PSD in the next release of ND5SX firmware upgrade!
No doubt a silly question, but what is PSD?

From Radio Paradise:
When we're playing something that doesn't quite fit your taste or your mood at the moment, the PSD (Play Something Different) button will play a different song
Cheers

Best thing in the world, that function!
There's another cool function on Radio Paradise that few people realize: you can display lyrics to the currently playing song. That, too, would be ultra-cool to implement in n-Stream

Are you into karaoke by any chance?

God forbid - I've lived for 10 years in Japan, where I could not avoid being taken to karaoke bars on various occasions, it's socially de rigueur. Unfortunately that was before the age of AutoTune built into most karaoke machines... Drunk salarymen singing horribly off-key is something that still gives me goose bumps.
No, I like to see lyrics because half of modern singers mumble and I can't understand what they are going on about
I was only joking - partly because I also recall visiting karaoke bars in Japan. Even after a skinful, it was never pretty...!
I wanted to say a big THANK YOU to all who have helped to get me started with NAS/streaming in this thread. Yesterday I set up my first NAS - a Synology DS214play w/ 2x4TB WD Red hard disks. It was very easy to set up and is reasonably quiet.
I also bought a piece of software recommended on this forum for CD ripping: dBpoweramp.
Long live this forum for helping me make sense of this technology!
