For all you vinyl lovers

It was my birthday this weekend and my girlfriend and I don't do gifts but we take each other away for a night and surprise them. This years surprise for me was the best birthday I've ever had. I was taken to shorditch London had some lunch and headed over to rough trade and bought some vinyl. We then headed to the hotel. Once arrived it looked quite plain from the outside with only a clock showing the name of the hotel. When we arrived in the room there was a rega turntable a large selection of vinyl a corner sofa and a lovely view including the girkin in the view. It was amazing and for the first time away I actually wanted to stay in the hotel room. The hotel is called the ace hotel and for all vinyl lovers I would strongly recommend it. Not all rooms have record players you have to pay extra for that so make sure you ask for that type of room if you do book. We also went to the shard for a few drinks and enjoyed some amazing views. It looks like I'm going to have to start planning for my gfs birthday now if I'm going to top my experience. The only downside was the record player played through a small radio so the quality wasn't there but we had great fun playing lots of random records quite loudly in our sound proofed room to the early hours of the morning.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

I love it.  That sounds like a great birthday - and a very thoughtful girlfriend too!

I'd heard of the Ace Hotel, but haven't tried it yet.  Thanks for reminding me.

Hello Richard,

Yes it's well worth visiting. We both loved it and would def go back there again. It wasn't cheap. I had the smallest English breakfast and it cost me a fortune and I was still hungry and had more food at the market at brick lane. Lots of places selling second hand vinyl there. Didn't find any bargains but was good fun looking. The shard was also very good. You can pay to go to the view point but it's £20 ish each. Much more fun putting that money to drink and enjoying the experience in the bar.

Very nice present, but wait until you try the Ace of Bass Hotel. No small radios, they have Statement there. I saw the sign

What a lovely gesture by Clare, Mike. True love of a vinyl-head indeed.
