NDX with a Switch

Posted by: TJSTAR on 13 January 2014

Hi,

I've just wired everything up in my new house. I have connected my QNAP NAS to a switch which in turn is connected to my NDX. There is a link from the switch to my router, however when the NDX is playing files from my NAS drive I am unable to see the drive from my PC o(which is wired to the NAS) or worse the N-Serve  App cannot find my QNAP Server wirelessly.

Any help with the settings would be gratefully appreciated. ( I wired this up this way as I was advised that a switch was the purest way to go, but I have my suspicions that although this maybe pure, it cuts of the signal to the router and I therefore lose my wireless functionality for the NSERVE to be recognised from my IPAD or phone....or anywhere else for that matter) I hope I'm wrong as I've spent 2 weeks sorting out the cabling)...

Regards,

 Trevor...

The NDX cannot be controlled using the n-serve app. it is a network streamer so you need to use n-stream to control it.

Hi Trevor,

Did you mean n-Stream, not n-Serve?  n-Serve is for Naim servers (HDX, uServe); you want n-Stream to control your NDX.  n-Serve will not see a non-Naim server I am pretty sure, and definitely will not control an NDX.

If you have the switch connected to your home modem/router (the BT Hub), and the NDX and nas both connected to the switch, all should work properly.  Have you re-booted the entire network?  (Start with the BT, power it off and then on again.  Then power on the NDX and let it find the network.  Then re-start the nas.) Then start n-Stream.

If your PC is running Windows . . . Windows can be bad at finding a nas.  Others have posted about this here.

Finally, some of the BT home modem/routers are known here to cause problems.  If you get everything else sorted and it's still not right, that is where to look next.

Good luck!
