Hi Rez music detection in NAS with Userve

Posted by: rded on 13 January 2014

Hi All,

I finally was able to back up my entire library to my NAS(Synology DS212j).  Many thanks to those who helped me out. But the US can not read my Hi Rez Files in the NAS. Do the Hi Rez files need to be in the same "back up folder" as the backed up songs or do I put them in a different file, say the Default music folder with a HiRez sub folder in it, and what are the configurations I need to do in the Userve desk top client control panel?

One more question, how do I rip music directly to NAS and not into the US internal hard drive? Thanks.

rded,

You would not put files into the backup folder; leave that solely for backups.

The uServe should "see" hi res files as easily as it sees standard res files in a network share.  No special settings are needed. Does your uServe see and play any files on your nas?

If you want the uServe to rip directly to the nas, you need to set up a "Store" on the nas.  The term "Store" is used to denote a folder that the uServe rips to directly.  The owner's manual will tell you how to do this.

Bart, thanks for being so helpful in helping me back up to the NAS and for the quick reply.

My Userve can't seem to "see" other files in the NAS. Do I need to activate those files so they'll say "online"?

Yes you need to have all network shares on-line, and then do a hosts can, although this should happen automatically after a short interval.

You are welcome!  Check out the "external storage" section of the uServe Reference Manual, page 20. It goes over the basics of storing files on a nas and creating shares and activating them.

Will do, thanks Bart.

What the reference manual won't do is tell you how to create proper folders on the nas.

Just create a shared folder on the nas the same way you created one to work as a backup.  Or just use the "music" folder which should already be there!

I tried using the original "music" folder and even created multiple shared folders but when tried to make those folders into a store, it says it can"t authenticate!! To be quiet honest, I don't know how we were able to create a back up folder, it just happened after hour and hours of trying! The US can't see my hi rez files either? I activated the music file and put some hi rez music there and the US can't see them.  Don't know what I am missing here as far as hi rez recognition and ripping directly to NAS?
