Airfoil / Songcast
Posted by: analogmusic on 16 January 2014
I used to have a sneaky which I sold, but I really miss the songcast feature, which allowed output of my macbook through tcp/ip into the sneaky.
I wish that naim would have such a feature.
In the meantime, though for my purposes, it seems Airfoil can do something similar, but with the Linn softwre the sound quality was quite high.
How is the sound quality through airfoil?
does it use the Airplay protocol, which is basically apple lossless at 44.1/16 bit.
For what I need this is ok for now (and $25 is much cheaper than buying another linn DS)
Anyway what I really need this for is for streaming you tube audio to my Naim system wirelessly.
I like enjoying music videos this way, and seems to be a good way to listen to new music.
Although songcast is open standard, seems no other manufacturer has implemented this other than Linn themselves.
If I had the IT skills I would just write a program that could make any PC/MAC into a songcast receiver, although maybe this kind of functionality is already available in Airfoil ?
