Accurate Rip Database
Posted by: Sloop John B on 16 January 2014
Many of the albums I am currently ripping have between 1 - 40 "hits" in the accurate rip database using dBpoweramp. I've just got a "200" for ZZ Top's Greatest Hits.
What's your highest?
(or is ripping my collection giving me OCD!)
SJB,
seems like you have done the ripping job the proper way.
Complete and consistent tagging is the prerequisite for setting up a library that will be of joy to its owner (and his/her heirs, for that matter) in the long term. Universal usability, thus not being dependant on a propriatary solution (like Naim), forms a substantial part of this.
Well done!!

You could argue either way.
Isn't it quite ludicrous that one has to spend an inordinate amount of time and frustrating energy posting on a Forum just to get advice on tagging ones audio file ?????
I am glad that SJB has found the right solution for him, but if one has particular requirements then that is the way to go. Of course, a proprietary system will not cater for all the possible ways of tagging that will be the result of personal choice, that's why it's called "proprietary."
But rest assured Mr Hamster, the Naim system works for those that accept its method. It's not complicated or wrong. Naim's decision to go with WAV and it's associated tagging method ( or proprietaryness) is as valid or correct as not having a proprietary system.
It's just you that can't accept it.

Jason.
Pinkhamster, I think the ultimate vanity is to imagine that our heirs will have any interest whatsoever in our ripped collections!
Mine have no interest in my collection right now, not to mention after I'm gone.
Wat has said it all.
Portability is the issue. I wonder what all the HDX owners will do when they decide or are forced (by whatever circumstances) to move to another system. They'll be left with untagged WAV files ... congratulations!
I like to do things properly because it means I only have to do them once.
Portability 'may' be an issue in the future, I certainly accept that.
If one has a Naim system the 'optimal' method for ripping is Naims proprietary system, otherwise it would not be a 'Naim proprietary system' based on WAV files but one based on AIFF, for example, like I-Tunes. The purpose of a Naim proprietary system is to 'control quality' not because it's an evil conglomerate. Naim deem WAV's to be optimal for their streamers, hense Naim's proprietary system.
Whatever you think about the above, it is the "proper" way for achieving the best SQ in this context, so therefore it is the correct way for many happy souls. If you both know better than Naim and consider this to be wrong, then so be it.
Right, wrong, improper, proper?????????
Like I said, its a bout acceptance, you both don't accept it.

I home demo'd a UnitiServe and sent it straight back to the dealer. The control over metadata as you rip is non-existent and unreadable by anything else. dbPoweramp coped with all my collection. Still a complete pain in the a¤¤e though.
From 1.7 you can rip to flac wich is portable. some may have special requirements for tagging and will have to find other solutions.
My ripping experience was without problems, 6 weeks after my ns01 arrived all cds was ripped, and no wrong tagging strategy just playing music.
playing music
On the other hand one of my friend bought a hdx 2 months ago and has about 20 to 30 cds with ripping problems, and that is too many out of about 1000 cds. I checked one of the cds and my ns01 missed several tracks without reporting errors. dbpoweramp managed to rip ´all tracks, but I have seen dbpoweramp giving up on other cds.
