RAF Typhoon ride

For you Brit air power fans; a friend emailed me this video:

Of course this is just a training ride; in real life they'd be killing people rather than just scaring sheep.

Sorry. I'm increasingly repelled by the fetishisation of miltary equipment. Anyway, good for UK jobs innit.

I'll get me coat.

Try as hard as I might, I couldn't find the stop button above my head...

I would like to visit the mach loop with my camera at some time though. They may be designed for destruction but they sure are purdy...

Sorry for the stupid question, but where in the UK is this? Looks like a region for trekking and hiking (if there are no fighter jets around)?

North Wales and Lake District

Thanks

My guess would be the Lake District. We often get fast jets zooming low up the valleys.

Found it, the "Mach loop". Good that it's a one-way race track .

Unfortunately, the Mach Loop is usually quiet now, what with the huge reduction in flying hours per pilot per month. I used to be in touch with a guy that had the phone numbers for a few aircrew that regularly used the loop, but they've all left the RAF, and he has moved on.

I'd hate to walk up that hillside, only to see a few Hawks and a Herc fly over!

Here's one of Rory's photos at the Mach Loop. This pilot was, so he said, leaving the raf a few days after this pic was taken. He asked Rory to not post it until after then, as going inverted so low, over spectators, is forbidden.

And Chris, one of our collegues, used to drive some whirlybird from Blackbushe  with VVIPs so we have to remind him as well. But the rest of us "failures" (you're still dreaming) got stuck with a collective mixture of Strikemasters, Hunters, Phantoms, Hawks and Lightings.

Sweet dreams

and one day soon you will all be sitting in a series of huts dotted around the world flying drones from one airport to another.

Hmmm...

The FJ fraternity are not known for their sense of humour or humility.

...nor their Operational experience.

Out.

You could be closer to the truth than you think

At present we are running flight experience and situational awareness courses for the Royal Atrillary drone operators. In other words, bringing them out of their boxes and into real aircraft to grasp the real environment in which they are operating.

Its frightening !
