Keeping NAIM tags when converting WAV to FLAC
Posted by: WInnes on 01 February 2014
I am the very happy owner of an Astell & Kern 120 ti, but godt a bit surprised when I realized that i lost all structure and tags when i Converted my WAV to FLAC format.... I have travled the net and have not found any viable solution on how to transfer tags from WAV to the converted FLAC file....
Any ideas ???
Most apps will convert WAV tags to FLAC tags. Dbpoweramp is one example.
However Naim does not write metadata into its ripped WAV files for reasons only known to Naim. Therefore there is nothing to convert.

But converting wav to flac on a Naim server DOES result in the tags being properly in the flac files. A bit of Naim magic!
Let a uServe convert it's wav store to flac and voila the flacs are tagged. Like I said -- magic
Can the unity server also convert files from another network disc ??? I am not interested in loosing the Wav files on my unity server, but have made a beckup that I could convert....

No, but you could keep the wav backup set, and convert the files in the Store(s) to flac. You could always revert to the wav backup set if you wanted to.
Hi WInnes,
Sorry, slightly off topic, but how do you find the sound quality of the A&K through a system (rather than headphones) ? Does it compare well against a full size streamer/DAC combo, and at what price point ? Very curious to know how it competes, if you have used it in this way......

Hi Karlos...
Currently I am playing on my NAC282, 3*NAP200, AUdiovector SR6 Avantgarde Arreté (as active speakers), my NDX with a Userve..... I have never once considered challenging my A&K gizmo, so to be honest I do not know how it compares. I have never intended to use it on a system and is just happy with the way it sounds on my headphones... It does not compare with my system at all on headphones but it is still FAR the best portable audio that I have EVER heard... BY FAR
Thx for that insight WInnes,
I'm thinking to get one and use both as a portable and as a source in a third system, hence the query. Sounding more like a plan.....
Cheers,
K
Karlos... as you mght have guessed already is that I only have ONE thing to be irritated about regarding mys A&K... it is frustrating that I have to convert my Wav files to FLAC just to get metadata on all the music that I would put on the A&K... the sound is GREAT and the build quality is amaingly good...
