'Sound City'

Did anyone else catch Dave Grohl's excellent film about the classic LA studio on BBC4 last evening?

Now I know why so many of my fave albums sound superb. Great stuff.

Excellent program. Incredible the number of bands that used their studios and I bet everyone here has got a record, or several,  produced/recorded in Sound City but have no idea. Sad to see their demise. Long live the Neve though!

Great program. Interesting to hear Neil Young's comment  on how the initial  'algarythems'! (digital programs) got it wrong from the get go.

In addition to iPlayer, if you want to record it, the programme is being repeated on Monday 3rd Feb at 1:05 a.m. on BBC4 HD.

Really enjoyed it. It's one of the best rockumentaries I've seen on the telly in a long time. "Born To Be Wild" was pretty good too, I thought.

Thoroughly enjoyed it (on iPlayer last night) and played the CD in the car on the way to work this morning.

I thought it was an excellent documentary, passionately directed by Dave Grohl. It's always interesting to see how a studio works musically, when theoretically it shouldn't. The Neve console obviously had a great influence in creating the studio sound, with it's 'Tank' build and channel isolation design. Very analogous to Naim's approach I think. I've ordered the vinyl, after seeing the comments on the Hoffman site regarding the dynamic range comparison with CD.

It would be good to see other films about studio's, Abbey Road etc.

Just got round to watching it on iPlayer.

What a fantastic documentary, so much history and great music.

At least the Neve console lives on.

Watched the documentary, 1 minute later the CD was ordered.

Looking forward to getting that one in the coming days.

Hadnt even heard of it before, and if it hadn't been for JN's post I might have missed it altogether. Thanks for the tip JN!

Super documentary. Watched it on I player last night. Many thanks for heads up otherwise I would have missed it. Gonna order the vinyl now.

We finally watched this last night, apart from the last half hour which we still need to see. The highlight for me was hearing Stevie Nicks singing towards the end. She still has an amazing voice.

The vinyl just arrived and has fab photos of the Neve console and all the musicians. I'll let it warm up and give it a spin later. I ordered from Amazon.

I have just played the vinyl LP straight out of the wrapper. Great record however I am a bit disappointed in the quality of the recording. It certainly isn't bad but it is by no means up there with the best. Found most tracks quite edgy and a bit harsh.

anyone else feel the same?
