Fault 59!!!

Posted by: Dwamish on 01 February 2014

Hi!

I have to admit that the Naim upgrades are a really nightmare. I Think I have bought my last Naim Equipment. Tonite I tried to update from version 3.17 to 3.22 and it looked good until the following message popped up on the SuperUniti...

"Fault 59 Bridgeco signal stuck!"

What should I do the upgrade was aborted and now I get this message and nothing else work...

Oh the vagaries of digital streaming/downloads. My sympathies. Yet another reason, along with all the other many threads dealing with streaming problems that seem to have taken over this forum, that I haven't taken the plunge.

Contact your dealer or Naim support for the solution.

it might be worth trying the update again with another serial cable.  I just bought one from maplins the other day which worked fine for an update on a uniti.

I have been strugling with the latest firmware update for my Uniti.  No matter which laptop I try, the Streamer Update cannot see Uniti on network.

Both Uniti and laptop are wired to the same network.  The router can see both units.  BUt the Streamer Update cannot see Uniti on the network.  The USB-RS232 cable is detected on either Port 3 or 4 on the laptop.

I use the same laptop and the same USB/Serial converter cable as during previous updates (that went flawlessly).

What could be wrong here?

I have previously done update from 3.09 to 3.17 that worked. This time same setup Now going to 3.22 and Everything wired between router, Unitiserve and SU an between computer to SU. So why does it happen. Anyways now I only see the message " Fault 59 Brideco signal stuck!" .... I am stuck as well.

From memory, I think I went to 21 and then to 22. Might that be what you need to do? Have you checked the PDF instructions to ensure it's OK to go from 17 to 22?

thanks,

but I actually had some e-mail conversation with Naim before I did the upgrade and they confirmed I could go directly from 3.17 to 3.22...

The SU is now back in the box it came in and I will bring the SU back to the dealer tomorrow. Sigh!

My guess is that the driver is not installed / installed correctly.  I see to recall that when the driver is installed correctly, and then the computer is connected to the Naim Device, the Naim Device appears on a port that was not available prior, and usually a higher number than 3 or 4.

Edit:  At least that is with the usb upgrade process; not sure it applies to the RS-232 cable and process.

It finally worked last night!  I used an older laptop with WIn Vista (!) instead on new running Win 8 and after a number of identical attempts, the Updater finally recognised Uniti on network.  It looks like, apart from the potential Windows 8 and OS X incompatibilities, the trick is to restart Uniti and start Update literally one or two seconds afterwards, while Uniti is still booting up and searching for network.  Weird, and inflexible - but it works this way.

The RS232 comms port closes after a finite time (30 seconds I think) after which time if you open the updater it wont see the Streamer.

OK Fault 59 means "Send it back to dealer"... It will mean two weeks at least to get it back. I do not understand how the update can be a failure when everything is connected by wires and still it the update programme can not find the SU???

It is now at the dealer who have to send it back to the distributor...

So why could it not find the SU does it have to do with me using windows 8 or that I use DHCP during the upgrade?

My attempt using Win 8 certainly did not work.

Try once more with Win 7 before you send it for repair

Well time to report back. 1,5 month later. I got my SU back. Updated to 3.22 and a replacement of an Audiovo card. No idea what happened but now it works fine again. Even sounds better or have I forgotten how well Naim sounds...

During an attempted update to FW 3.23 I received a Fault 59! Nothing could revive the unit, even the factory reset, and it had to go back to the (US) dealer.

It's been gone 2 months now :-(

Hopefully back soon.

My new NDS has firmware version 3.23.000 BC SW 3D12943.50 according to nstream.

3.22 sorry.

A very basic question.

What's stopping Naim streamers from just updating themselves automatically everytime a new version is released? Suffice to say, I have never gone through the process, but surely this should be relatively simple to set up.

Thanks Shank, I went thru days of stress updating ND5 and wondered the same thing. I set up my iMac next to the stereo to do this and still had a  2.5 hr tech talk session that got it installed.  Wish I had sent it in a year ago.

I love my computer-based digital storage of my music and app-based browsing and playback. It has transformed the way I listen to, and manage my collection.  But I'd go nowhere near the twonky, nightmare world of the laughably named UPnP streaming.

I agree with the 1st sentence, but disagree with the third. There are a number of Naimophiles here who have Twonky working quite happily in their set-ups. I don't see any more or less integration difficulty for items like the HDX or Unitiserve. At the end of the day the weakest link in the chain is usually a bloke who resorts to reading the instructions ONLY after pressing the auto-destruct button.
