Great (newish) record shop in South London

Posted by: Kevin-W on 02 February 2014

In case anyone's interested there's a great record shop - The Book & Record Bar - in South London (right by West Norwood Station) which I visited today.

The owner converted it from an old pub (called The Gypsy Queen) and it now stocks 10,000+ vinyl LPs (no CDs) as well as books, posters and memorabilia. You can also get a cup of coffee and various snacks. They also have gigs and have an events licence.

Jazz and rock selection is average, but folk, blues, psych and reggae are all excellent and the electronica selection is superb. It's slightly chaotic but a great place to rummage and have a natter, and prices are, on the whole, very fair. I picked up four minty LPs - Johnny Guitar Watson, Sinatra/Basie, Robert Cray and Cyclopean - for just £25.

They're not on the web but are on Facebook. Very friendly place. Well worth a visit and supporting if you're in the area. They only take cash (or PayPal).

Hi Kevin,

Unfortunately Norwood is a bit of a trip from Bushey but it's good to hear of another 2nd hand vinyl shop opening. I'm lucky to have 2 outlets within a mile of where I live. When you come over I'll take you, the one at the market is the best and his prices are more than fair.

The brickwork above the shop front is a gorgeous work of art, it’s a shame these skilled and imaginative architectural features are not seen in modern buildings.

a fab photo too, Kev : )
