dBpoweramp lossless encoding

Posted by: Freightliner Mark on 03 February 2014

Dear all - I have an NDS and QNAP (3TB x 2 Twonky) and have been ripping (6000) cds at lossless 5 (default setting).

I nwo wonder if I would get a better sound if I used a different encoder setting?

Depending on the answer, I probably should have asked this question 6000 cds ago?

Thank you in advance

Mark C

dBpa can batch convert your whole library to any lossless format if you want - no need to re-rip. Probably best to convert one cd and see if you can hear an improvement.

FWIW I rip to Flac level 5 and dBpa transcodes to wav when playing and I can't hear a difference between that and native wav files. I can hear a (very slight) difference between Flac and wav if the Flac is not transcoded. Some say they can hear a difference between level 5 and level 0 Flac.

There are many(!) threads on this topic but the easiest way to quell your doubts is to listen!

Pev, when you transcode to WAV, do the track names have '.flac' added to the end?

Thank you Pev but my QNAP wont convert to from FLAC to WAV.

How do I change my level 5 to level 1 without re ripping?

Thanks

Right click on files selected and convert to "uncompressed"

SQ as WAV plus better metadata as FLAC

levels 0 and 1 are still compressed

You never have to rerip. FLAC is lossless and can be converted into any lossless format or other flac compression level without reripping.

just use dBPoweramp Batch converter, select your files and say convert. In the conversion screen select flac and choose the compression level you want 0-8 or uncompressed.

All will go well and there is no need for reripping.

cheers
