n-Stream Compatibility Mode

Posted by: Gandalf_fi on 05 February 2014

Using QNAP HS-210 & NDS & can make it work only with Compatibility Mode. I cannot even see NDS on device list -> I need to put NDS IP & use manual.

Wondering 1) what is causing this? 2) have anybody solved sinilar problem (few other topics exists about the same?

Could be due home network, especially router & wondering if adding extra switch to NDS & NAS helps?

My understanding of uPnP compatibility mode is that it helps nStream work with non-Naim uPnp servers like the one you are using.

So not wholly surprising that you need that enabled to work with your QNAP.

The Naim servers (eg UnitiServe) have Naim's own uPnP server software and the integration between their servers, streamers and apps in my experience works very well and is very stable (provided you have a good network of course).

So it's double speak. There should be two modes, 1) Normal (Compatible with all uPNP servers), 2) In-Compatible (works with Naim uPNP servers only).

This might be the case, I did not understood this, thanks about sharing.

I had the same problems

my solution comes from the technical Naim support in germany

Turn the power from the naim off.

AND UNPLUG THE POWER PLUG !!!!!! UNPLUG IT

Plug it back turn the Stream on. and this works

There can be some old fragments in the cache from the streamer which will be deletet only what i have wrote.

It worked with me

^ tried twice, did not work in my case it is quite stupid if I have Naim stream sw & Naim NDS & still have to use compatibility mode. I understand that is is due non Naim UPnP used but still It should work with default settings?

Which UPnP-Server are you useing with the Qnap? I use Twonkey and Minimserver and both work fine with nStream in UPnP compatible and non compatible mode. So I think something is wrong with your setup.

I use both Twonky & Minimserver as well. I have tried to figure out what is wrong in the setup but no success so far. I have been thinking that "something" is blocking from network side or could really new QNAP HS-210 block some ports etc... Interesting is also that Asset does not work due I cannot access to certain ports. Wondering also if my internet service provider router i somehow causing the situation.

OK. I don'nt think the Qnap is the problem because I installed on two or three Minimserver and aktivated Twonkey whithout any problems. I think about three possibiltys to check whats wrong.

1st Try to clear the cash from your nStream

2nd Install Kinsky on your PC or Mac and try to connect to your music

3rd Install Minimserver onto your PC or Mac and try to connect with nStream.

After this tests you maybe see clearer which part of your system is not working correct.

Cache clear does not help, Kinsky works when disabling firewall from pc, need to try minimserver at some point, minimwatch does not work either, server itself in qnap is working. I'm wondering if n-stream compatibility uses different port than without it, this is due Asset does not work or Asset setup cannot be opened & it uses ports 26125 & 45537.

Thanks for this tip, worked for me.

I had troubles playing ALAC & AAC from my Synology NAS with N-Stream.

Only the compatible mode was working!

Switched the Superuniti off and on.

Installed the latest firmware.

Cleared the N-Stream cache, even reinstalled it.

Installed a music server on my PC.

... nothing was working!

Hi,

Have you tried re-booting either - or both - the QNAP NAS and Router?

I know that when my Streaming starts playing up (and it does!) one or both of those actions clears the problem.  On a recent upgrade to MinimServer the only way I could get it to start was to re-boot the QNAP.

Also - and my apologies if you think I'm making fun - I know that with the QNAP you have to Launch the Server, mere installation is not sufficient (i.e. go to App Center and click on Launch for the chosen Server).  Have you done this?

Set-up:

QNAP 419PII ~ NetGear Router ~ NDX (all wired)

I use: Twonkey Server (7.2.51.0)

MinimServer (0.8.1 - update 17) + MinimWatch (v.?)

Logitech Media Server (7.7.2)

Hi,

I have booted both QNAP & Router several times. Both Twonky & Minimserver are working just fine in QNAP (booted QNAP & launhed properly). The issue is n-Stream only, Kinsky works with PC just fine. Could there be firewall or some setting preventing normal mode in iPad Mini / IOS 7? Need to check.

Problem solved! The reason was my Internet provider wan/lan/wlan/switch device. I added a new wlan device & switch after that & no need to use compatibility mode anymore. I also got Asset UPnP working (latest sw version fixed the issues with qnap hs-210).
