nStream App issues
Posted by: Chris Bell on 06 February 2014
Updated my nStream app to the most current build. It runs slow, freezing during scrolling and crashes frequently. Running on iOS7 iPad Mini.
Its become very annoying... Suggestions?
Chris
My iPad Mini (original) is fine, running on IOS7, no consolation I know!
Have you tried removing nStream and reinstalling?
The other thing is that I found all our iPads (2, 3 and mini) were sluggish and unstable after the ios7 'upgrade'. I couldn't install new apps properly on all of them either. I backed them up to iCloud and factory reset them, restoring from iCloud as part of the setup wizard and this brought back performance and stability for me.

Well, I deleted nStream and downloaded a new version. Now all of my playlists are gone. Playlists that I have been building for over a year are no more. Surely there could have been a better way to preserve this data?
Chris
Oh No! Apologies I didn't think of this as I don't use playlists on the iPad (having 3 iPads it's easier to use Asset for this).
Do you use iCloud backup? If so I would suggest restoring back.
Richard
Chris I had the same thing happen to me. Deleted nStream to reinstall nStream and lost all my playlists. The silver lining is that I decided to build all my playlists in nServe. This is way better. Playlists in nServe are rock solid unlike nStream where every time I accessed a playlist it would loose some of the tracks.

This is also an option for me and a no brainer if you are running both apps, since it groups play lists with albums, artists, etc. i.e. where they should go to start with. Volume control and FR/FF are essential components but past that nStream is average at best. nServe looks nicer, is more logically laid out and more legible. I guess (but don't know) that if you're not running a Naim server this is more difficult to achieve outside nStream. An investment of less than 1% of the Statement R&D budget might have been of considerable benefit to all the existing nStream user population.
Also, if nstream runs jerkily during scrolling, delete the cache (and also image cache if you like). This almost always restores a smooth scrolling action...
I have used n-Serve on my UnitiServe, that I previously owned, and it was smooth and instant. I now have a ND5 XS using the n-Stream app with my iPad Air. It can be a tad slow, as you have to wake it up, but it's no big deal. Out of the two apps...n-Serve is slightly better. Having said that, If you click on the 'info' button of an album, n-Stream displays tons of info/photos of the artist/band, just like a CD booklet.
I have to say, iOS 7 is not good. What they have done to some of the apps, doesn't bare thinking about, especially iBooks and Calendar. Terrible!
I hope you manage to sort your problem soon.
David
The problem with the tons of information displayed by nStream is that a good proportion of it can be irrelevant or factually incorrect. So we get all this guff yet can't see something as basic as file bit depth. I'm sure nStream is in for an overhaul. It needs it, although I am happy with the basic functionality. Basic about sums it up and it doesn't do anything positive for the reputation of a premium brand.
Hi AudioFool.
How do you play playlists made on a Naim server on a Naim streamer?
Playlists should be displayed as an item under under All Music along with Artists, Albums, Composers etc.
Found it. Thanks. Much better way of using playlists.
This is a question about compilations and "various artists." The performers of each track in the compilation is stored under "Performers." But when playing a compilation disc in NStream, only the Artist and song title is displayed, but not the performer.
Is it possible in NStream of nServe to change the settings so that the performer is also displayed?
