Deriving a CD from High Res Download

Posted by: Goon525 on 12 February 2014

Can anyone recommend methodology/software for a Mac for taking a purchased 96/24 FLAC download, and cutting a conventional 44/16 CD from it? Not trying to do anything illegal, merely play stuff I've bought on a CD player occasionally.

Would have a similar question - but in a different direction. How to move a high res onto my apple ipod (so convert in a lower resolution apple lossless file) ?

Why not play it as high-res flac on your iPod?

The Golden Ear app allows you to,do so (Up to 96/24)

Aleg, does the iPhone DAC support 24/96?  Or is the app just downsampling the file on the idevice?   Those HD files can really reduce the number of tracks you can carry about.  Or does it sound wonderful?

IPod and iPad do support 96/24, the music is not downsampled.

indeed you do loose out on the number of tracks you can store On your device.

Update.

the software doesn't downsample, but on a hardware level it might get downsampled depending of the capabilities of the internal DAC.

have not found any conclusive reference to capabilities on hardware level.

Simplest option as you are a mac user would be to use xld to convert the flac files to something iTunes can read (ALAC, AIFF, AAC etc.) then use iTunes to burn a cd.

Yes   I'm pretty sure once you convert to say ALAC and put in iTunes, iTunes will automatically downsample to redbook  when you click burn CD

Thanks for the recommendation of xld, Rich27. The combination of that and iTunes got the job done.
