UnitiQute: NAS via Ethernet cable & WLAN not possible?

Posted by: gsh on 15 February 2014

As I've read in this forum connecting the NAS via Ethernet cable to the streamer is the best way to do it. But as soon as the cable is connected to the Qute WLAN is disabled. Am I doing something wrong or is it not possible to have both at the same time?

I was browsing the Reference Manual hoping that the answer was stated there.  I do believe I've read here in the past that it can only be one, or the other.  And that makes sense -- the device can only have one IP address on your home network, and so it can only have one network connection.  Things can't work right if your home network sees it as 2 devices, which is what would happen if both the connections were active.

My laptop computer works the same way -- if it's on wifi, and I plug it into an ethernet connection . . . the wi fi connection goes away. I believe that this is basic networking structure.

Thanks, Bart,

my MacBook is currently connected via cable to the WLAN rooter but according to iStat pro WiFi seems to be active at the same time automatically using a different IP address. Maybe this is not possible with the Qute.

gsh, some devices can have multiple network ports - depending on implementation they can share the  same IP address or have different IP addresses such as my PCs and Macs,  BUT that is a separate subject...

Nam Network players can only access Ethernet either by wifi or by 100BaseTX (Fast Ethernet) but they can't do both at the same time. To have both would require additional software and complexity that would be surplus to core the task of playing audio.

so I have to accept this.
