ReadyNas backup folder settings

Posted by: Daunt on 16 February 2014

Another dumb question (probably). Can anyone give me a simple, step by step guide to seeing up a backup folder on a Netgear ReadyNAS please.

If I go to Tools/Music Repostiaries/Scannable Network Shares I can see the NAS and some but not all the folders I have created on the NAS. If I try to use an existing one as a backup the Desktop Client tells me it can't because the share contains files or folders - which it doesn't. I'm a bit stumped from here on in.

I have set up a new (empty) share called naimbackup and that isn't seen at all - so two questions:

How do I add this new share to the list

How can I then prevent the Desktop Client from saying it can't use it!

All help appreciated.

In tools, music repositories, scannable networks shares, use the add new button. Input the path to the share something like: \\readyNasName\naimbackup I suppose you have all your shares on the rootof the nas. If you have username and password on the share, uncheck the box use default crydencials, and input username and password. Until it works it makes things a lot easier to avoid security. I suppose you can access the shares from a mac or pc, with a sharename?

Hi Daunt, which ReadyNAS have you got ?

The shares that your US doesn't see ...is 'Share Access, Everyone, Read/write' ticked on the NAS?

Which Sharing Protocols are ticked for these shares (should be SMB)

In Share Access tick 'Allow Anonymous access'

...these options are what appear in the Duo V2, but will be different on earlier models (I have both, so tell me what you have).

I was able to re-create your problem, but doing the following it worked OK...

Power cycle your US.

On desktop client:

Click on your 'backup' share and click Cancel Ignore

Status changes to Online and Active = No  (make sure that's what it says)

Click Use as backup

Let us know what happens !
