Albums that never fail to elicit a big smile upon listening

Posted by: Zipperheadbanjo on 22 February 2014

Having a lazy Saturday morning and just put on "Gordon" by the Bareneaked Ladies (16/44 flac) on the SU. Now I've never really considered myself a huge fan of the Ladies, but putting this on just transported me back about 15 - 20 years and I find myself sitting here with a big dumb grin on my face as I listen to each track.

And I would also say that I have a new appreciation for this band listening to their music for the first time on Naim gear...Holy Prat... there is really a lot going on in their music instrumentally, great harmonies and fun irreverent song writing. But I digress...

Surely we all must have those little audio "guilty pleasures" that just elicits... happiness. What's say you?

That's definitely a description that applies to Gruppo Sportivo' s albums "10 Mistakes"/ "21 Mistakes",  although I wouldn't describe them as a guilty pleasure, there all round, superb albums.

The humour in the music and lyrics are down to the genius Hans Vandenburg, probably 75% of the tracks are either taking the p155 out of people/music, self deprecating or just plain very amusing.

Other classics are,  lasting forever. henri and girls never know.

I,ve had these on vinyl for YEARS. Bobby Charles was a complete surprise to me (that I liked it!!) - It was recommended to me probably over 25 years ago by a guy in Audio T West Hamstead - can't remember his name - but thanks!! - surprised because at the time I was into reggae, punk, electronic etc.....Both albums still sound great & certainly had my money's worth from them.

+1 on that Bobby Charles album, though here in the US it was just self-titled. The Band backs him up on that, and it's a great match.

Anything by Ronnie Lane & Slim Chance

Teenage Fanclub - Songs From Northern Britain

Really enjoying this thread.  Thinking of music I haven't thought of for some time.

Listening to tracks Levitate and I Got Stoned and I Missed It.
