Jazz Clarinet: Ewan Bleach

I went to listen to Martin Litton's Red Hot Peppers yesterday evening. It was in a very small theatre in Woodbridge and so was quite intimate. Apart from vocals all non amplified and it was superb. It's the music of Scott Joplin, Jelly Roll Martin and Fats Waller. Superb Dixie, New Orleans and Blues Jazz. In the band was jazz clarinetist Ewan Bleach.. he was amazing and really got the clarinet singing and swinging with that lovely woody texture. Ewan mastered the Shreveport  Stomp which has got be one of the technically hardest jazz clarinet pieces out there..(and was good on vocals as well).

I am interested to see if anyone else has heard Ewan, and know of other similarly talented up and coming jazz clarinetists. I see Ewan plays a lot in London, New Orleans and across France.

Not up and coming but if you haven't heard him before New Orleans born clarinetist Evan Christopher is worth a listen. He plays a lot in Europe and has a new live album out “Django à la Créole: ‘Live’!” recorded at various venues in the UK. "Finesse" is also very good.
