Cannot delete playlists from ND5 XS

Posted by: Graeme MacArthur on 29 March 2014

My system playlists are stored on my NAS as .m3u files, made using Vox on a Mac.

I initially made some experimental playlists to see how it worked and now want to delete those. I have deleted them from the NAS but they still appear on the ND5 XS (as well as in n-Stream). I've tried clearing the cache but that made no difference. Anyone know how to get to these little devils?

TIA

Hi Graeme

Just a guess, but have you refreshed your UPnP server. Even when something is deleted from the storage the server can keep a record of it. Try a refresh of the media and hopefully everything will resolve.

Thanks Russell. No I hadn't. So I re-scanned and re-booted. The effect was, as you hoped, to remove the playlists from the system. So that bit's good.

The bad bit is that the playlists I wanted have also disappeared from the system! They are still on the NAS but have disappeared from the ND5 XS and n-Stream. Strange, eh?

Yes that is strange, especially if it found them in the first place. I have no idea why that would be I'm afraid . I use a free application called 'Playlist Creator 3.6.2' to create mine. Just do a search  on-line if you're interested and you should find it. You might have to play with the settings a bit to get the list to look exactly as you want but it works fine for me constructing M3U lists on my Synology.

Looks like your Upnp server is not picking up the mu3 files. I'd check to see how you've configured your media software to see what file types it is set up to stream assuming you are using a software Upnp rather than a Naim server.

Is it possible you changed the Upnp configuration when you were trying to delete your unwanted test playlists?

You say that the playlists have disappeared from n-stream. Does n-stream have an empty playlists folder or has the playlist folder disappeared too?

Thanks Russell. Playlist Creator appears to be a Windows application and I'm running a Mac. I suspect the problem is with the server software. I've got Twonky Server on a WDMyCloud NAS drive. I can't afford a Naim server but I think I might treat myself to a Synology.

The playlist returned but with only three tracks in it! Opening it in Vox I could see that all 54 tracks were still there. I re-saved it and now the playlist is complete. Twonky just seems to take a long time to catch up as far as I can gather, even though it's supposedly rescanning on every change.

sjbabbey: thanks for your help. Twonky is configured to show all files. The playlist folder is still there in n-Stream, along with the default ("Most Played", "Last Played" and "Recently Added" ) playlists (also on ND5 XS) and now, happily, my own playlist.

It's Twonky!
