NDS Run In Sound Characteristics?

Posted by: gtiboy on 31 March 2014

Hi all, Just received my new NDS replacing my NDX. It's connected upto a 555PS DR and Supernait 2 which are all run in.

First thing I've noticed the sound isn't as forward as the NDX and the high frequencies are slightly harsh, and everything sounds abit closed together. My NDX sounded more open and with better separation.

Is this what you guys experienced when you first got yours? And how long does it take for it to really begin to rise above the NDX's sound?

have you loosen the bolts at the bottom of the NDS?

That sounds like the traits of burn in to me. It can take months to fully realise your new kits potential, but it starts sounding better very quickly initially. So a few days will have it sounding much better but it will carry on getting better for many weeks. Good times ahead.

How long did you have to wait from order until it was delivered?  I have NDS/555 on order myself.

...sounds quite typical had similar challenges in the beginning, it takes quite some time till everything is burned in, I had a similar challenge with the NDS, 555PS DR and even a NAC 552 running in all at the same time....

You can read my posts and experiences NDS has arrived...

That must have been a leap of faith, coming home every night to see if things were progressing well. Done this many times after laying out huge amounts of money. You know it will come together but there is always that small niggling doubt until it finally does.

I own Naim for 16 years and never had anything that took less than couple of months. This is just my experince, of course.

Give it 4-6 weeks.  It will be worth the wait.

Another one joining the run in since the new kiddy on the block arrived yesterday

Coming from an NDX/555, NDS is sounding mighty fine.  Looking forward to the run in (being over.... )

+1, don't judge a Naim before the run in is over

takes a month at least.
