SONS OF KEMET and KAIROS 4TET shortlisted at the PARLIAMENTARY JAZZ AWARDS

Two of Naim Jazz Records' hottest young bands, Sons Of Kemet and Kairos 4tet, have this week been shortlisted to win Jazz Ensemble of the Year at the UK's Parliamentary Jazz Awards, run by the All Party Parliamentary Jazz Appreciation Group (APPJAG) an awards ceremony that has become an increasingly important platform for deserving British jazz talent in lieu of a BBC Jazz Awards or Jazz FM Awards, and with the Mercury Prizes shortlist at the end of 2013 controversially forgoing any inclusion of a British jazz artist for the first time in at least a decade.
Sons Of Kemet's totally-mind-blowingly-original and incendiary debut ‘Burn' was heralded by critics as one of the albums of 2013, culminating in the group, led by BBC New Generation Artist winner and reeds player Shakaba Hutchings, winning a MOBO for Best Jazz Act. Kairos 4tet, a new group for Naim with their acclaimed new album Everything We Hold, are no stranger to the limelight. They also scoped a MOBO two years ago for the stunning self-released album Statement of Intent in 2011. Everything We Hold, which includes numerous vocal collaborations with some amazing new talent and household names such as British soul singer Omar (MBE!) is the brainchild of saxophonist and composer Adam Waldmann - also featuring lyrics by his childhood friend, TV thriller Homeland star Rupert Friend. The winners are announced at the House of Commons on Tues 13th May 2014, but which Naim artist will win?! Best of luck and congratulations to both highly deserving ensembles.
