So you prefer domestic channels. Isn't Borås quite south to listen to Sameradion ? My friend have a cottage up in the north (by the river between Sweden and Finland) where I spend a week or two every summer. Since a small battery operated radio is the main entertainment there we sometimes listen P3 also although we are not that young anymore (less Sameradion though).
You are absolutely right osprey, Borås is located veeeery far from Sameradion I listen to P2 och P3. But mostly I listen to music on LP.It sounds great to spend some time in the wilderness and I assume you fish then? Nice! /Elsa
The original OP referred to a request for suggested radio stations. What about those that are listed but appear to be ghosts in the system? I have tried on and off for a period of several weeks to access Radio Scotland and get to the link and get 'can't play station unavailable'. Any suggestions?
Thanks Ray, Radio Paradise is already a favourite. However Radio Scotland is currently broadcasting Travelling Folk which this week features an interview with Donald Shaw who is not only the founding member of Capercaillie but is also the artistic director of Celtic Connections. The trusty old radio through the AV is fine but it would be nice to hear through the SU via the internet.
Hi Forester
You might want to try contacting VTuner support at http://www.vtuner.com/ and see if they can fix the stream. They were very helpful when the JazzRadio streams stopped working some time back.
I had a look at the Radio Scotland help and they only give the URLs of the local stations at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radioscotland/about_us/ unfortunately - otherwise you could have tried adding the station on your Naim Radio Guide page...

Ian,
Thanks for the reply. However I get quite nervous with things technical and quickly get to the edge of my competence. Section 6.4 of the SU guidance manual provides instructions on how to add Internet stations. However in this case Radio Scotland is already listed and I am therefore nervous about adding to this. Your e-mail suggests that VT Tunes manage the longer list of Internet stations. That his makes sense, i.e. companies such as Naim just provide access to a wider resource.
Two additional questions. The first is what is the difference, if any, between an Internet address and an URL address? The second is that when I tried to listen to Radio Scotland on my iPad I was informed that I need to install flash - is it ok to download this? As an aside it is not necessary for other stations such as Radio 2.

I recognise your nervousness about technology and I think it is a pity that Naim requires its customers to have a degree of IT competence to make full use of its products. I'm afraid I can't help you with your questions, although I have finally managed to update my Uniti (after buying the correct cable), while my TV, bluray player, mp3 player and PVR are able to update either over the air or automatically via their internet connection. Apple has grown to its present size without its customers needing to have any computer literacy beyond the use of a mouse.
I agree. I work as an engineer in the broadcast industry and updating my Uniti left me feeling nervous and the process seemed over complicated when compared to equipment I regularly update with software and firmware in my working environment.
There is probably a good reason - there usually is, at least companies tell us so - but it's far from confidence inspiring, more so for many less technically adept. Of course one can always take the unit back to a dealer for an upgrade but that isn't always too easy or convenient and in any case, it's just a bit of firmware which, those of us with Apple products for instance will know, usually happens almost without us being aware.
I have had conversations with computer people about such things over the years; a piece of equipment I use regularly that works well because it has evolved through use was rubbished by a nerd who suggested it could be done just as well with a mouse. Well a year later the company he worked for made a user interface that simulated the kit we had used for many years. Why? Because it worked better. So I take with a pinch of salt the notion that things software are so because they can't be done more elegantly - I am certain they can be!
Unfortunately you can't download flash to iPad or iPhone. Apple won't allow it. That's the first time I've seen an Internet radio station require flash.
Hi Forester
Adding a station using its URL (or internet address, they are the same thing) doesn't affect the streams which are manged by V-Tuner - you're right, basically Naim use V-Tuner's service to stream to iRadio on the Unitis etc.
I also checked out Radio Scotland Live on the Uniti and get the same as you - I'd definitely ask V-Tuner if they can check it for you. Howevere, having found my way to BBC radio Scotland on n-stream on my iPad I did notice that listed is the Travelling Folk programme you mentioned and that played fine for me - sounds good!
As Greg has already mentioned iPads don't support flash, very odd that it is needed. However, using the (excellent) TuneIn Radio app I can play Radio Scotland. Think that TuneIn Radio is free or there's a Pro version which I use which is pretty cheap anyway.
Hope this helps,
Ian

My absolute favourite has been lately:
(found from Most Popular Stations list of n-Stream)
Quote from Wiki:
FIP's programming is an eclectic mix of musical genres: chanson, classical, film music, jazz, rock, world music and more, but with careful attention paid to smooth and unobtrusive transition from item to item. FIP is one of the few stations in the world to transmit this type of programming around the clock.
For all you proggers out there, not 'arf. Very very little chat or ads, the odd self promo.
progrock.com found in iTunes, recommended by an ex-forumite.

I've become a bit of a fan of '1967 plus' - has a French jingle but is Scottish, apparently. Worth a listen.
'Bossa nova Breakfast' hits the spot on a lazy Sunday morning with a broadsheet, strong coffee and croissants.

+1 for FIP French radio , i discovered this yesterday reading a qute 2 review and its fantastic . Everything from classical to reggae in a very french style. I haven't "Shazamed" so much for years.
FIP!!! Best radio station ever because they know how to create an incredible program. I work in France and so I even can listen it in the car while traveling around.
I do like also Bossa Nova Breakfast when I work at my PC at home.
Cheers

as the Uniti family tops out at 320kbps when playing WMA (lossy) files. The standard stream is 128kbps, but is generally encoded fairly well.
+1 for KEXP, they're youtube shows are also brilliant too.
2. Avro Klasseik
3. Radio 4
To help Naim assess their radio station, I would say Naim Radio is a little too 'over the place' for my tastes at the moment and I often find myself changing to another after 15-20 minutes.
