Secondhand Record Store Directory

Posted by: Steve J on 11 April 2014

I've been meaning to start this thread to create a useful guide to forum members up and down the country, and abroad, of recommended s/h record stores to visit on our travels.

I'll kick it off with two in the Watford area near where I live.

The first is Sounds Retro run by my friend Pete in Watford Market. There is a huge stock of good quality s/h vinyl covering all genres. Quality is generally very good and pricing is realistic. I've had many bargains here over the years. He discounts prices for multiple buys and friends.   It's a favourite place for friends who come over to visit. There is no mail order or website.

The second is appropriately called Second Scene situated in Pinner Road 5 minutes walk from Bushey Railway Station. This is a small shop environment run by Julian with a large selection of vinyl for sale. His prices are reasonable but not quite as good as Pete at the market.

The website is http://www.secondscene.co.uk

I hope people will contribute to this thread and others find it useful in their search for good quality vinyl.

Great idea for a thread - should be made sticky.

From my previous post:  I visited Langley MIll Records in Nottingham today and it was well worth a visit. Almost exclusively s/h stuff - excellent vinyl stock with some CD's, DVD's and books. Tim, the owner, is very knowledgeable about collectible vinyl and has a 'healthy' collection of vinyl at home.

As far as the vinyl stock is concerned - very good rock, pop, country and soul selection. Not bad jazz and classical selection, with more to go in to the racks apparently. I bought 12 LP's and negotiated a nice discount off the marked price.

Worth a visit if you're in the area

Not a bad selection of stock but prices are a bit salty.  Not surprising for the West End I suppose
