Backup on new 2Tb HDX

Evenin' all:

My 3 year old 2x500Gb HDX decided to go t_ts up on me a couple of weeks ago (bad main drive).  Back to the US authorized service center for repair and they told me that the dual drive replacement parts are no longer available - can only fix it with a 2Tb single drive.  Not my preferred option as the 500Gb drives had plenty of room for my collection and this represented a simple, self-contained, idiot proof system/backup.  Anyway, it is what it is.

Now I have to go out and buy a NAS to back up my HDX.  Looking for a 2 drive system, 2-3 Tb each drive (one drive will back up my HDX and one will backup my main computer).  Looking for the easiest to setup, most reliable system.  Don't care about security options on the NAS (this is handled by my main computer system/router), don't need ultra fast (just fast enough to backup).

Any suggestions?

synology or drobo.  You can set up RAID for either one easily , which will give you redundancy. You don't need a separate drive to back up your HDX and computers -  unless you have a mac and want to use Time Machine. Its quite picky about how drive volumes are done.

Make to use hhds developed for streaming. WD red series seems most mature as texhnology for this. I can also recommend synology

Synology has been good for me - look at the 213j.  WD "Red" drives was a good recommendation too.

Thanks all.  I think I'm going to go for the Synology DS214 NAS box with 2 WD red drives.  I was going to get 2x2TB drives, one dedicated to backup the 2Tb HDX drive and one dedicated to backup my 2Tb computer.  However, if I can use a 2TB folder for the HDX and a 2Tb folder for my computer, on a 4Tb drive, I could use 2x4Tb drives with RAID1 in the NAS (I'm using a PC with Windows 7).  Is there any issue using a shared drive for the HDX backup?

You can back up to any volume that's on the network, and the HDX won't care what else is on it.

You can get 2x WD Red 4tb drives; the 4tb are not all that much more expensive than the 3tb drives.
