UnitiServe encodes WAV files as .MP3 rather than .mp3

I've a UnitiServe that rips my CDs to WAV format, then encodes them to mp3 format. The resultant files are stored in the MQ and LQ folders respectively on a synology NAS.

Within my Naim Desktop Client, v 4.0.14.1175 running on a windows 7 machine, I can see the File Format for ripped CD encoding as WAV within Settings & Functions -> System Settings -> Ripping/Encoding tab. I cannot find a setting for the encoding to mp3 format, but the files end up as <filename>.MP3 rather than <filename>.mp3.

Why is this an issue? Beacuse they files are stored on a Synology NAS which runs linux as therefore respects case.

I use a directory comparison tool to compare my (previous) mp3 folders and my (new naim) LQ (mp3) folders and this reports that every file is different because they have .mp3 and .MP3 suffixes.

I could rename either side to .mp3/.MP3 to resolve this, or find a way to get the US to encode to .mp3 rather than MP3.

Anyone know of a way to achieve the latter, or what are the potentail pitafalls of renaming .MP3 to .mp3 or vice versa?

I don't know of a way to get the uServe to change how it names the files . . . nor do I know of any reason not to go ahead and change it on the nas.

(My uServe also creates the .MP3 extension)
