Incredible.............
'murkans can shoot themselves up as much as they like for all I care. I don't go there much.
Selfishly yours,

So you have to be inbred to be a gun enthusiast. Makes sense.
Guns in bars.... sounds sensible......
This is a piece of feel-good liberal bashing that's designed to pander to the most conservative people in one of our most conservative states. It will serve to energize the arch-conservatives to re-elect the incumbents in the November elections, rather than replace them in primary elections with even more conservative conservatives.
A lot of the dead-on-arrival legislation that comes out of our Republican-led House of Representatives is also designed to do exactly that. That's why Congress didn't get much accomplished last session, but the House did vote to repeal Obamacare thirty-odd times.

Yep, you have to be crazy enough, but not too crazy, to be a successful Republican.

I've always thought Canada would make a great state or two or three.

Yeah, those people down there south of the 49 in Canada's underpants often eye our country enviously.
But seriously, the gun debate is interesting. What's worth remembering is the the risks of getting shot, even in the USA, are pretty trivial unless you:
a. own a gun yourself, either carried or at home,
b. or are involved in gangs or other illegal activity,
c. or choose to shoot yourself,
d. or go hunting (especially whilst drunk)
The best way to not be shot is to not own a gun or hang out with people who do. Being shot by someone you have absolutely no connection to is not unheard of, of course, but it is actually very rare in the scheme of things.
Is that similar to "If you don't want to get knocked off of a bike, don't be a cyclist" ?
Speaking of which, I really need to get some padded shorts.

Yeah kind-of. People choose the risks they take. Avoiding guns and people with guns is a truly great way to reduce the risk of being shot. Not riding a bike is also a great way to reduce the risk of having a bike accident.
(Incidentally, it seems to me that the term "knocked off your bike" is a peculiarly British term. Here, we tend to say "run down, or hit, by a vehicle".)
One of the funniest idiomatic usages is "put down" as in euthanise at the vets [or with a shotgun in the countryside!].
So a farmer, when asked to put his baby grandson down asked, "Why? There is nothing wrong with him is there?"
