Damon Albarn: Everyday Robots

Anyone else grappling with this album?

Not sure I can recall a record that has frustrated me so much in recent times. I love the downbeat and rather melancholic feel, and it has moments that are lovely but in places it feels flat and unfinished.

A strange beast, and intriguing. Maybe a grower-which is normally faint praise but perhaps not in this case.

Anyway it made me listen to 'Think Tank' again and recall what an interesting album that is.

Didn't float my boat when I heard it a few weeks back.

I really like the album but Albarn's   atonal voice needs a few listening sessions to sink in.  Still, a beautifully accomplished  album in my opinion!

I agree, while i think the music and the ideas in them interesting, I cannot get past his voice! I do listen to his last 'solo' record, 'The good, the beautiful.......etc" but his voice is much more exposed here and i just can't get beyond it I'm afraid. My loss I am sure.

Hi Bruce,

I have not heard this album, but I think his voice is actually much better live than recorded. I also have 'Think Tank' and really liked it for some time, as you say "interesting" then it became very tedious except for two tracks, I think.

Anyway, I don't think I will buy anymore of his stuff, but I will seek this one out For a quick listen.

Jason.

I've really been enjoying it, I feel that it jumps from melancholy to pop and back again too many times which makes it hard to enjoy as a whole album.  I'm currently wrestling with the new Swans release, it's been extremely well received, although I just find it stressful!
