RCA vs DIN

Posted by: sharik on 16 May 2014

was kind of shock to me when discovered that RCA inputs on my Nait XS 2 have such a poor installation -

has anyone here ever compared how the RCAs perform against DINs, does it affect the sound quality if i use RCA inputs thus ignoring Naim's recommendations to use DIN ones?

have recently replaced a phono RCA cable ,an entry level one made long ago, between qute-nap100  with basic naim's own  RCA-DIN . It made a massive difference, actually it didn't sound as naim should  have before the shift.Bass made its appearance at low levels you wouldn't have noticed otherwise, and  fast and tight was ,too.  Always use din when possible and home built cable otherwise you'll waste a great deal off your electronics.

sharik,

Had you never "looked inside" would you still have a question? Seen by photograph, the innards of the FCXS are quite unimpressive, yet I never doubted its contribution to sound quality of my previous system .

wonder why RCA inputs on Naim's while a RCA-DIN adaptor included in the package would have been enough.

Freedom of choice and freedom of opportunity - Naim interconnects are consistent though

Sales value? I recently sold my Nait XS to someone with no other Naim gear. Probably wouldn't have happened if the XS had only DIN inputs.

I like the positive 'locked' feel of DIN connectors when you get them located properly. Some phonos can be tighter than others and you're not sure whether they've really located. I have an old Meridian 101/103D with DIN connectors and at some point I'll feed it nice digital signals from a DAC-V1, using DIN to DIN all the way.

believe it or not but as i began using DIN connection i soon started getting ear fatigue which i did not have with the RCA one...  go figure, a better connection and the resulting sound do not mean a comfortable listen?

RCA connection usually mellow things out a bit. ( loss of dynamics and jump )

Gold plated ones are even more so.

and this is what i finally came to understand, that both connections have been wisely designed by Naim, provided you plug RCA cables into RCA sockets and DINs into DIN's.

There is a depth of wisdom here, rare on this forum.

No normal person could disagree.

i use a rca to 3,5 mm jack to connect my mediaplayer with Arcam dac to the front ipod connection on the Nait XS. i actually prefer this soundwise to the chord cobra 2 rca to din cable.

lots of wisdom indeed, now that you have bearded lady's who stick anything into any thing, it does take a lot of wisdom to merely stick a DIN into a DIN or a power plug into a power socket and so on.
