FIFA World Cup 2014

Posted by: Chris Dolan on 18 May 2014

Atletico Madrid win La Liga and Arsenal sneak the FA Cup. Citeh's money taints the Premiership - sadly.

So who is going to win the FIFA World Cup (sponsored by McDonalds). Is Suarez is going be the top scorer - or would he fail to score with Jordan? Eddie that is

Well it's being held in Brazil - the smell up coffee and wake - imho - what do you guys think?

Goodness me!

Contrary to what I said above and Gus Poyets confidence, Uraguay are looking pants.

England line up is: Hart, Johnson, Jagielka, Cahill, Baines, Gerrard, Henderson, Wellbeck, Sterling, Rooney, Sturridge.

Credit to Hodgson for selected some youth, pace and flair.  If Gerrard and Henderson can do the hard graft protecting the back four, we've got some pace and power that could hurt the Italians.

Oh and Buffon says he isn't fit to play.

Less than 2 hours to go. Bring it on!!!!

Yes agreed, a good attacking team, the only way to play against Italy, ruffle those delicate feathers.

I would have played Wilshere rather than the weird gaited Henderson

Well done Costa Rica. Better team won.

Agreed, ewemon. Another entertaining game.  One deserved red card and could have had another earlier in the second half for that lunging tackle with two feet off the ground which received just a yellow.

Really hard for Uruguay now, with England and Italy to come.

As the start is here now, what about a nice provocation just to put some pepper the match? Is the grass of the battlefield green enough for you?

With sending four forward, Henderson may make more sense. He's a bit more of a holding midfielder, and Wilshire's a bit more of an attacker, although to be fair, both can play box to box if need be.  Hodgson must feel England needs all 3 points to have a chance of advancing. After watching this last game, I'd have to agree. I like their chances, so 2-1 it is!

For so small a country, Uruguay sure has produced a lot of great players...but they don't seem to have produced a great team. A near perfect second half by Costa Rica. They rolled over the US last fall by this same score, 3-1. They looked tough then, and they look even tougher now.

I'm OK thanks. I've just been busy since I got back from Spain on Tuesday.

Suarez's face was a picture tonight and he won't be fully fit on Thursday.

Cheer up lads.   At least you don't have to meet Spain and the Netherlands to get out of the group stage.  Just for laugh I am going to predict an upset.  Australia will beat one of the two fore mentioned teams in a shock result.  Had a good chuckle.  Oh, I'm semi almost serious.

....I think some folks have watched a different match to me sometimes ...I thought England played well ..attack minded ...plenty of shots on goal ....although as I expected they were vulnerable at the back ....Rooney's performance was  very mixed - I'd probably leave him out against Uruguay (for Lallana)
Hodgson did as we all hoped - went on the attack - no blame attached to him I reckon.
