FIFA World Cup 2014

Atletico Madrid win La Liga and Arsenal sneak the FA Cup. Citeh's money taints the Premiership - sadly.
So who is going to win the FIFA World Cup (sponsored by McDonalds). Is Suarez is going be the top scorer - or would he fail to score with Jordan? Eddie that is
Well it's being held in Brazil - the smell up coffee and wake - imho - what do you guys think?
Anyone else really looking forward to seeing what the Belgians can do this evening?
Yep me.....Mista h

Well I was looking forward to seeing what Marouane and Adnan could do - the rest? Not so much
Surely Uruguay was always going to be the critical match for England (almost) irrespective of what happened against Italy? Of course now that Costa Rica got the better of Uruguay, England's chances are somewhat, er, altered.
Good point about the expensive flight to Manaus Rod.
Although before the WC I am assuming that as England supporters are not guaranteed to see an England game beyond the group stage and Italy would be the "high profile" game as opposed to the "critical" game, and you have travelled all this way to see England play, it appears a little surprising to me that one wouldn't go to that game.
It would be interesting to know how many of the 51,000 tickets sold were for the group games?
In contrast, for example, So far, I believe, the game with Argentina v Bosnia at 74,738 is the highest attendance. I am also assuming that Bosnia did not bring that many supporters, so therefore Argentina packed the game, probably not the most high profile game for Argentinian supporters, yet they went.
I don't have any real point to make, Just thinking out aloud here.
Jason.
Although no score This is a very good game and Mexico are giving as good as they get, rollon the second half.
Jason.
I think Brazil look laboured again. Passing in the build-up looks slow. Mexico disciplined and well organised, seemingly content to contain their opponents. Will be interesting to see what they do if Brazil nick a goal, otherwise they look like they are playing for a draw which, in fairness, would be a good result for them.
Can't say I'm convinced about Brazil yet.
Okay, so I live a shltered life...but I have just watched this excellent Nike World Cup shorty "Risk Everything", with Chris's lover in a staring role. Not sure about that accent though.

And he seems to have thicker hair!
Didn't notice any German players in the team. I wonder why
Second half better. Hernandes coming on for Mexico really livened up their attack. Marcello looked Brazil's best player but why he threw himself down looking for a penalty when past the defender only he knows. Ref got that decision right. 0-0 a fair result but I was more impressed with Mexico than Brazil.
Loved it
I was hoping that Rooney would score the winner - but Cris will do
So Mexico continue to be a (sort of) bogey team for Brazil - and if only they had not had disallowed goals against Cameroon.
You would expect Croatia to beat Cameroon - wouldn't you? Even then Mexico would only need another draw to go through.
My money (if I had any) would still be on Brazil to top the group
We belong to an excellent Hi End gear and music Forum,so I think back to Steely Dan in this WC post:"Mexico City is like another world".Not sure whether Brasilian Forumites will agree.

Hmmm, yes seems to be some controversy with this film. I will try to find the numbers in the film that part of the controversy is related to.
Jason.
p.s. Does anyone remember the sound track to the intro of a football programme on Britich a TV some years ago. It was a kind of cartoon with mad characters running about on a pitch kicking a ball in a frenzy to some really good Latin/funky music. Sorry can't give you any more specifics.
I always liked it and wanted to get the music.

Yeah, it's a shame that more of our W C brothers and sisters from other countries are not contributing to this thread. It would be really great to hear from them regarding how their team performed etc.
I am semi interested in the next game, but am wondering whether to bother...perhaps the first half.
Jason.
Shame that my ancestral Irish homeland didn't qualify.
Good news though - Joey Barton still thinks England will qualify - as they are less ugly than Uruguay or Costa Rica apparently
Oh those Russians...
Three more (partially) entertaining games today.
Brazil were ponderous, complacent and unconvincing; Mexico were tactically astute and the goalie Ochoa was magnificent, easily MOTM for me. A draw was a fair result.
Belgium were gritty rather than inspirational - especially when you consider the talent on display - and Algeria showed they might have enough to get through to the next round. Another fair result.
Both South Korea and Russia were pretty average - until the last 20 minutes or so the game was slow and dull. Again, a draw was fair, but I can't see either side progressing unless they speed up a bit, and their play is very predictable.
I predict a corker tomorrow when the Spanish, seeking revenge for their drubbing by the Dutch, take on Chile, who have the ability to score by the bucketload, but whose defence is, er, somewhat porous (or even suicidal).

Nice summary - and a degree of seriousness that this thread lacked earlier.
May I apologise if some of my earlier posts on this thread have offended - I appreciate the concerns that have been expressed to me privately - thank you for letting me know.
So from now on let's enjoy the festival of sport - the quality of those participating and the diversity
I like that the Brazilian goalkeeper was called Julio César.
Maybe ours should change his name to Joe Hirohito.
And perhaps
Alex Oxlade-Palpatine
&
Raheem Sterling-the-Merciless

Even if our (Croatian) goalkeeper changed his name to Stipe Bonaparte or whatever, he would still suck...
I remember him being pretty good 15 years ago.
+1
In reality the Dutch where fortunate to win 5-1.
Fortunate not to go 2 nil down when Silva was clean though.
Their second goal was deflected past the keeper.
Their third goal should have been disallowed for a foul on the keeper.
Their fourth goal was down to a freak keeper error.
Could have ended 2-2.
Maybe this is Mista dolans house !!
Who lives in a house like this.....Mista Dolan perhaps!!
