FIFA World Cup 2014

Posted by: Chris Dolan on 18 May 2014

Atletico Madrid win La Liga and Arsenal sneak the FA Cup. Citeh's money taints the Premiership - sadly.

So who is going to win the FIFA World Cup (sponsored by McDonalds). Is Suarez is going be the top scorer - or would he fail to score with Jordan? Eddie that is

Well it's being held in Brazil - the smell up coffee and wake - imho - what do you guys think?

Holland might struggle without RVP  but I draw would be enough for them to top the group

For a team that prides itself on accurate passing, Spain gave the ball away too many times! Yes, the pressure from Chile was intense, but even when Spain did have time, they still made a lot of unforced errors. That's why Xabi was benched -- no focus, no concentration.

What a difference from four years ago in South Africa, when La Roja could do no wrong!

Was impressed by Australia's effort versus Netherlands, with the exception of Leckie's dives that is. Based on what I saw today, Chile should finish ahead of the RVP-less Oranje.

Britain first but it's all about England. Maybe a wee pointer to the problem?

Wow, talk about a collective loss of confidence. Suddenly when put on the back foot all the easy rythm of that Spanish team just appeared to fall apart! Chile were great, tenacious and skilful and importantly appeared to have no respect. We've got used to teams almost surrendering posession to Spain and choosing to defend only but they showed how it should be done.

Good stuff; fascinating to see a whole team taken apart mentally as well as technically. I'll wager we don't see so many of those players again in national colours. To be fair the likes of Alonso, Xavi, Iniesta, Casillas etc don't owe their country anything and have been marvellous in ther pomp.

Onward Chile. Nobody will fancy them in the next round-certainly not Brazil who appear to me to be on the brink of suffering a similar collapse to the Spanish.

…….. and with a Chelsea scarf centre stage too.

From what Roy hodgson was saying yesterday - eg Rooney doesn't know if he is playing or not - and doesn't know what position he is playing in - it would seem that England will start with the same team but wuth Welbeck on the left, Sterling on the right and Rooney behind Sturridge.

Or was it a double bluff?

Chaps, do we know the England team yet?

Not yet personally - but I have £50 on Rooney not to score

Let us hope it is not the same outcome.

I know i am critical, but I hope they all have the games of their lives.

I want to see Jordan Henderson go on a mazy run and score the goal if the tournament.

i hope we see Rooney take a great corner.

It might the same IX but I wouldn't be surprised to see Rooney playing in a different position more suited to his strengths

My predictions have been lousy, so I'll go 1-1 (But I don't really think this), ssshhhhhh.

Is it me or is Leighton Baine's 1st touch supposed to toe-poke it to ricochet off his own chin? Where are some basic skills? Do they train together? Second half cannot be as bad though sureley?

Posted on: 19 June 2014 by MDS

We seem much slower in our build up than we were against Italy, and the runs seem to be started from deeper enabling defenders to get set.

And, yes, that should have been a second yellow for the Uruguay captain.

Rubbish and offside.

Well, now we're as good as out I'm supporting Chile.

Not actually out yet?

I had hoped for a definite in or out, but that was wishful thinking.

I am hardly the biggest England football team fan in the world but you guys have my sympathy.

It's probably a little too soon for this but Gerrard has had his day and devastating for it to end this way for him.  Hart was not strong at the second goal, as he collapsed a bit too early in my book and the cannibal's shot pretty much went through him.

Tough one as England were the better team all in all.

My early two cents (or Groats maybe as a Scot).

This is a very poor England team. We have not got one world class player anywhere on the pitch

Posted on: 19 June 2014 by Jasonf

I am watching it in Norway, so did not realise Gerrard flicked it on...oh the irony.

Well, Baines was poor, Glen Johnson could not even throw the ball to an England player, they could not move and find space, laboured, and contrary to Roys brevado before the game, they were less attacking minded than the game against Italy. and to top it all, a real lack of passion and desire in the football. We could even end up bottom of the group.

Hoopla...as it's commonly known on the Forum.
