FIFA World Cup 2014

Posted by: Chris Dolan on 18 May 2014

Atletico Madrid win La Liga and Arsenal sneak the FA Cup. Citeh's money taints the Premiership - sadly.

So who is going to win the FIFA World Cup (sponsored by McDonalds). Is Suarez is going be the top scorer - or would he fail to score with Jordan? Eddie that is

Well it's being held in Brazil - the smell up coffee and wake - imho - what do you guys think?

Yep, and just substituted. Should have happened earlier.

Looks like the "special one" was right all along.

Dam I so wanted chile to win...good game, good game as bruce would say

Posted on: 28 June 2014 by Jasonf

That was an excellent game of football pretty evenly matched, perhaps Brazil just pipping it and some excellent referring again from Mr Webb.

I would agree with Webb on Hulks handball and Hulk did not seem to disagree that much. All in all, a very enjoyable game of football and for only the second time thus far I predicted it right on the nail 1-1 after extra time including Brazil to win the penalty shot out.

I hope the next offering will be equally as exciting, I have this one 2-0 Colombia.

I think on the balance of play Brazil shaded it.  The Chile shot that crashed back off the crossbar just before the end suggested it was Brazil's day.  Still the Chilean team and their wonderful fans can return home with heads held high. They both did a magnificent job in promoting their country.

Jason,

I agree that Webb and team got the handball decision right but, in general, I think he is one of the most overrated referees around.

Sorry don't agree.

I think you should respect the other teams anthem as most in the stadium did.

I am sure that winky was being ironic

Funny, but I feel just the opposite about watching. It rarely feels to me like one team wins a shootout. Instead, it almost always feels like one last striker misses, and becomes the undeserved focal point for his team's loss.

I would rather see them play the real game until one team scores. Call it sudden death, or better, sudden victory. I see no need for a guaranteed 30 minutes of extra play. Just give each team 2 or 3 extra substitutions, and play until there's a winning goal.

On paper it makes no sense, but I'm still picking the upset today: Mexico over Netherlands, 3-2.

And I am pretty sure the Greek drama will end sadly today versus Costa Rica: 2-0.

You've got your numbers mixed up Hook.

Netherlands over Mexico, 3-2

Very good Mr H. Is Mr Webb a Man U supporter by any chance?

Right Chaps, or should I say 'Lads' as it seems more appropriate in football circles, as I am on a very good role having predicted the last three games correctly and now my points score has overtaken my mates over in Blighty, I am going  2-1 to the Netherlands and 1-0 Costa Rica (All these scores consider extra time).

By the way, I have a 20 year old Tawny riding on these predictions.

Hook,

I'm afraid we have been there and done something very similar.  It was called the Golden Goal and in essence the first team to score in either of the 2 x 15 extra time periods won immediately.  Unfortunately, it led to very dull ext ram time periods as teams would rather not lose than play open expansive football to win.

They even introduced a Silver Goal where if any team was leading after the end of the first 15 minutes of extra time would win.

Both were dropped by FIFA from the laws of the game in 2004.

Cheers

Jim

BTW, I suspect you personally haven't had the misfortune to play for an extra 30 minutes after the normal 90....I can't imagine what it would be like to play for even longer!

After the start you made I can't even imagine how bad their predictions were!

Lol. Yep that's true.

And Notradamus left a lot to be desired, hense.......

And notice that I did not offer a prediction for the winner at the start of this Workd Cup, as I understand it, Notradamus had the benefit of drugs to aid his predictions, I sadly don't.

Apparently, a Norewgain guy just won himself about £2000 betting that Suarez would bite someone during the World Cup, even Notradamus didn't see that one coming..

The race to become Manchester United's player of the year is heating up.

It's currently close between Howard Webb, Lee Mason and Andre Marriner.

Howard Webb used to be the best referee in the world - but then his bottle went - imho.

Nice to see Mexico and the Netherlands playing in their traditional colours. Early stages rather cagey with Mexico shading it IMO.  Dutch doing a fair bit of shirt-pulling and diving.  Wish they wouldn't. With the quality they've got they don't need to use such antics.

Agreed, Mexico looking the more assured and causing problems down the Tangos left. and the first time I have seen the 'cooling pause' .

Chris,

I think that Webb was a very good Premier League ref who was found wanting at the World Cup final. Since then he has regressed and may well have lost his bottle. IMHO of course.

If i posted on here what the Fulham faithfull think of Howard Webb steam would be coming out of Richards ears and i would get a lifetime ban from this M/B. So i would just say he is not a liked person in SW6.

Jim,

Remember Mr Dolan is a Man Utd supporter. That should make things clearer. "6 minutes extra time enough Mr Ferguson?"

Steve

Welcome back Chris.
