FIFA World Cup 2014

Posted by: Chris Dolan on 18 May 2014

Atletico Madrid win La Liga and Arsenal sneak the FA Cup. Citeh's money taints the Premiership - sadly.

So who is going to win the FIFA World Cup (sponsored by McDonalds). Is Suarez is going be the top scorer - or would he fail to score with Jordan? Eddie that is

Well it's being held in Brazil - the smell up coffee and wake - imho - what do you guys think?

Holy shit, the biggest dive in history!

Come on keeper.

Tricky one this.

I thought Mexico were the better team in the first half and up until they scored. Then they decided to ease up a little and allow the Tangos to inch their way around the box more and more.

Bad call for the penalty, blatent and terrible dive, Roben should have got a yellow...but he had a very good case in the first half for a pen...so who's to say.

I am very disappointed for Mexico, but football where's the veil of an ugly mistress sometimes...and I bag another 50 points.

Was going to suggest that I can't see Greece coming back from 1-0 down, but Costa Rica just had a player sent off for a needless second yellow.  25 mins to go. Maybe the 'Bubbles' can create something? Mind you, they've just brought on the veteran forward Gekas, who I've never been keen on.

The Bubbles have equalised in injury time. Would you believe it?

Playing 10 on 11 for 60 of the 120 minutes could not have been easy. Nice save by Navas in the shootout. CRC deserved the win.

I was pleased to see Costa Rica go through, too. I agree with Wat, though - the game wasn't exactly a feast for the eyes.

Not a good day for refs - both poor. I right couple of D'Ursos.

This is what fulham fans think of Ruiz !! When we lost 6-0 at Hull.

What there is not a question of, is that regardless of whether he was played in his preferred position, he never failed to give less than 20%. He was a lazy lazy git, and his 50 minutes in the hull game last year was the most spineless by a fulham player last season. And he was up against some pretty stiff opposition for that award.

The penalties were fantastic though.

Although I'm sad to see the sizzling Chileans and the magnificent Mexicans depart, I still think this has been a brilliant World Cup - loads of brilliant goals, lots of surprises, most teams ditching a defensive approach in favour of attack and some great stories.

It's great to see the pundit-defying Costa Rican fairytale continue, and the best team in the tournament so far - brilliant Columbia - getting into the quarters.

Yep. Very much agree with this, Kevin. Now Chile's out I'm giving my allegiance to Colombia. I thought they looked very good against Gnasher's lot, and what a wonderful goal by James.

Can't see it, Wat.  The Germans don't seem to have nightmares like some of the big teams. Would be fun to see though.

This should be very interesting, Algeria will be well up for this...Nostradamus says 2-1 to Germany.

Heart Algeria - Head Germany.

Bravo, Algeria, who have started very brightly. Goal rightly ruled out for offside but at the moment they have the Germans looking worried and hurried.  Really need to score while on top, though.

Posted on: 30 June 2014 by Jasonf

Looks like the game plan for Algeria is all back behind the ball, harry Germany and then counter attack. That won't work all game but it may get them the first goal.

Touché!

And it looks like Algeria are playing 3-6-1, that maybe the first in this WC.

That was an entertaining half, a game of contrasting styles...and shirts.

Germany starting to edge closer to that allusive goal...but there is always chance of a sneaky counter attack By Algeria.

Why are the Germans always such spoilsports?

Posted on: 30 June 2014 by Jasonf

Yep, you have to hand it to them, they know how to 'manufacture' a win. It was a very enjoyable game.

So I nailed that score too, that's another 50 points in the bag for me. Ever closer to that 20 year old Tawny.

Great touch and goal by Schürrle.  Would have been nice to see an upset, but you got to give the Germans credit.  Their constant pressure finally wore the Algerians down...and out.

I keep thinking these exhausting games are going to take their toll on the German team, but I wouldn't bet against them versus France.

Can't see Switzerland getting anything from this game, 2-0 Argentina.

Not when  some of the stupid Swiss defenders try and dribble the ball out of their own penalty area. just plain bloody stupid.
