FIFA World Cup 2014

Posted by: Chris Dolan on 18 May 2014

Atletico Madrid win La Liga and Arsenal sneak the FA Cup. Citeh's money taints the Premiership - sadly.

So who is going to win the FIFA World Cup (sponsored by McDonalds). Is Suarez is going be the top scorer - or would he fail to score with Jordan? Eddie that is

Well it's being held in Brazil - the smell up coffee and wake - imho - what do you guys think?

Brazilian defence caught watching rather than marking once again and now it's six.

so any predictions For the final score?

Posted on: 08 July 2014 by DrMark

I don't know much about the sport, but from what I have learned from reading this thread and watching some parts of games, I don't think any of the pundits (or even non-pundits) saw this coming...

I'm giving up with predictions. I thought this would be a 2-1 win for Germany. At the moment I don't think Brazil will get one.

And so it goes on...

Brazil are making England look good lololol

7-0. A stunning finish.  I am going to make another prediction......there's going to be serious amount of lager drunk in Germany tonight. And I'll raise a glass to them, too. Germany have been magnificent.

We have a telecon with our German colleagues planned for  first thing tomorrow morning.....I think it may get postponed!

An incredible victory for the Germans. Holland and Argentina must be crapping themselves.

What a fantastic World Cup.

I'll have a glass of port now. Such a match will not happen again any time soon.

I cannot ever remember sitting in front of a TV watching a football match being numb. Terrible display by Brazil and they should be ashamed of themselves as it was like watching a Primary school team play adults.

7-0?  They must have scored a touchdown like in "real football."

(Note: this comment is posted 100% tongue in cheek, and should not be taken as a representation of my views.)

What's a "touchdown"?

Please excuse my ignorance - I don't follow minority sports.

+1

I gave up watching it - it was described as the worst performance by any team in world cup history and that seemed about right. Amazing that such a performance came from Brazil. let's hope tomorrow's match provides more enjoyable fare.

I thought about doing the same, but getting home right before halftime, and being shocked by the highlights, I could not avert my eyes for the final 45 minutes...as if watching one long, slow train wreck.

Was hoping for the excitement of an historic Brazil/Argentina rematch in the final, but that was obviously not to be! All credit goes to the German National Team, and their core of Bayern Munich players. I kept thinking today, how did these guys lose to Real Madrid in the European Championship!? It was a professional assassination, and had they not taken their foot off the gas pedal to start the second half, they could have easily reached double digits IMO.

Brazil looked completely lost on defense. Can it be 100% attributed to Silva's absence due to his boneheaded second yellow?  Was Neymar's injury the key? Clearly the former hurt worse than expected. But as a Bayern starter, we had reason to expect that Dante could fill the role. Also, Brazil had other competent forwards like Willian and Jo. No, I don't think Brazil's performance had anything to do with losing those two. I think, quite simply, that they had been winning entirely on energy and emotion and individual (not team) great play. I think that going in to this game, they were tired, burnt out, under an absurd amount of pressure, and hanging on by a thread.  When Germany scored first, that thread snapped. Brazil became even more frenetic, and more disorganized.  And when you that against the world's best football team (is there still any doubt?), this is what happens.

Business commitments have me getting home late tomorrow, so again I'll only get to see the second half. Would still be fun to see Argentina advance, but without Di Maria, I suspect we are now looking at an all-European final.

ATB.

Like a sudden collapse at cricket Brazil are not really 7:1 worse than Germany but they are nowhere near as good as they thought they were and when somebody really kicked the castle it came tumbling down. Feel a teensy bit sorry for them but if this World Cup had been in Europe they might not have made it this far. I think they got to the semis on emotion, luck and some rather generous refreeing.

Credit to Germany. A team of team players, not preening individuals. They appear to have matured together and I reckon play like a good club side as a result. They played with smooth, crisp and confident class. Hope they win it, although I do have a soft spot for Messi who plays so often with a smile on his face and seems to be a player quite happy to be judged on his performace rather than his haircut. Is it only me who conversely finds Robben so irritating?

Agreed Bruce. Robben is a talented player but dives too easily. Like you I hope Argentina make it through.

Bet Chelsea are glad they sold David Luiz before this...I reckon his price just went down the toilet.

At least Thiago Silva found something useful to do whilst suspended.
