Posted by: Chris Dolan on 18 May 2014

Atletico Madrid win La Liga and Arsenal sneak the FA Cup. Citeh's money taints the Premiership - sadly.

So who is going to win the FIFA World Cup (sponsored by McDonalds). Is Suarez is going be the top scorer - or would he fail to score with Jordan? Eddie that is

Well it's being held in Brazil - the smell up coffee and wake - imho - what do you guys think?

Englnad v Italy is in 2 weeks time at 11.00pm - A winning start? 2-1 to England?

Most teams are rather cautious in the opening groups games, seemingly more concerned not to lose than win. The Italian style of football is of course very cautious so I think this might be to England's advantage.  I'd rather play Italy in the opening game than later in the group when the Italians need a win.  A draw would probably suit both teams and that's what I would put my money on.

Agreed MDS.If I were not Italian,I would prefer to play Italian team at the beginning. Our story says this: players are not so diligence in the first matches. They usually start playing more seriously when they need a win:in or out.Of course we need a good generation of players, not the like the dead one we had in South African WC.I think now we have some interesting young players helped by the senior ones. Not lucky with a very good mid field player Montolivo. He had his shinbone broken the other day vs Ireland.I actually was not happy when the Italian staff decided to play this friend match against Ireland.British team always fight hard even if it's not a very important match.I would have preferred say Portugal?Or something like.

If it is a draw perhaps Italy and England with both qualify, Fabio. I felt very sorry for poor Montolivo.  It is terrible bad luck to suffer such an injury in a friendly just a couple of weeks before the tournament begins.

Although my head says the winners will come from the home continent, probably Brazil, I'm going to have punt on Belgium as the dark horses. They've got a squad that is probably the strongest the country has ever had with some real flair and talent.  Maybe they will challenge that reputation that there are no famous Belgians!

What to 1966?

Chaps,

Just been speaking with my Italian mate in Naples, and he told me that he does not think this Italan team is as good as the team that got knocked out after three games in the last World Cup.

So he is under the impression that England could quite easily win.

Or is this a Neapolitan foil?

Jason.

Is a Neapolitan foil three flavours of ice cream wrapped in silver?

World Cup News

Marco Reus has been ruled out of the World Cup after suffering an ankle injury in Germany's 6-1 friendly win over Armenia.

The Borussia Dortmund midfielder, 25, sustained a partial tear on an ankle ligament and is expected to be out for six or seven weeks.

"For him and for us this is extremely regrettable," said Germany coach Joachim Low.

Sampdoria defender Shkodran Mustafi has replaced Reus in Germany's squad.

Sorry, it took me a while to find a picture of an Australian Football fan that wasn't a bloke wearing green face paint or a shirtless Western Sydney Wanderers yob clutching a flare ( only kidding, RBB are just enthusiastic guys that like a tan).    I don't know about Mile(s) but I reckon Franjic ( from my local club Brisbane Roar) will sneak in our goal for the tournament and it will be in the 92nd minute cos we like to leave it until the very last moment to win games.

Without Radamel Falcao will Columbia be lacking up front?

Posted on: 07 June 2014 by Hook

Was slightly encouraged for US hopes after watching the Mexico/Portugal friendly last night, and especially if Ronaldo is unable to heal in time.

Today's final test versus Nigeria will be very interesting. Offensively, we are playing well, but defense is a big concern.  We are solid in goal, but have allowed way too many easy opportunities for lack of good communication on the back line.  But I guess that's always the case for national teams (unless a country is lucky enough to draw two defenders from the same club).

Opening Game

Brazil v Croatia - predictions please

Posted on: 07 June 2014 by MDS

I don't think Croatia are the force they were a few years ago (and, although irrelevant to this game, certainly not when Boban, Suker & co were in their pomp) so I think Brazil will win this 2-0.

A bold prediction - bearing in mind the cagey nature of opening games and the potential banana skin (aka SlippyG)

3-0 for me though

No argument there, ewemon, but what about a prediction on the game?

Posted on: 07 June 2014 by Chris Dolan

I think ewemon meant that Brazil v Croatia will be a stunner of a game - perhaps?
