Apple Lossless tagging problem

Posted by: mbroeska on 27 May 2014

Hello all.

I've ripped all of my CDs to Apple Lossless for play on my UQ2 but also for Apple TV. For the most part it works without a hitch, however with a few albums I'm having tagging issues.

Sometimes, the UQ2 and n-stream software have replaced the artist name with the name of the song. When I view the album in folder view (my preferred method) I see a list of songs, but not the typical interface. I've attached an image.

When I play a song and click on the info button, I get the following:

I think most people would say "you've just got to update your tags," BUT the problem is I KNOW I'm tagging it correctly. I can see tags showing properly in Windows 7 explorer, in iTunes, on my iPhone, AND in multiple tagging softwares. All info is in the right place EXCEPT on the UQ2 and n-stream. I've even gone into my NAS and rebuilt the database.

With all that said, does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks.

Matt.

Hi Matt,

The UQ definitely has not replaced anything -- it is just playing what it's told to play.  The same with n-Stream; it's really just seeing what the server shows it.

Which begs the question -- what are you using as a server software package?

Of course. That's an important detail. I have a DLink DNS-320 which I've had to hack to run fun_plug and I have installed miniDLNA as my server.

As mentioned above, from about 400 CDs, only 5 or so have this problem... but it just doesn't go away from those albums. Nor has it just popped up randomly and affected anything else.

Interesting.  I'm going to guess you're just going to have to live with it, and also guess, more strongly, that it's not a Qute or n-Stream issue.

You could try installing a different server and try that to see if it makes a difference.

Or first, try putting the offending files on a USB stick and see how those show up in n-Stream when the stick is plugged into the Qute.

Have you also filled the "Album Artist" tag propperly? Just an idea ...

Hi Bart, I'll try the USB stick and see what happens.

PinkHamster, though I'm not consistent on the Album Artist tag, I have tried that with and without and it didn't make a difference. Thanks though.

This will bypass the server, so should be informative.
