Hi Rupert - i take it you mean you want to make a backup of your audio files on your computer (where you ripped them to). You can copy them out to an external hard drive with no degradation. I would do this using appropriate backup software which will allow you to do incremental backups to your external hard drive. When you first do this, it copies all the files over to your external drive (which can take a while if you have a large collection of music files), when you next make a backup, it then only copies any new files or changed files and is much quicker.
