Macintosh: UnitiQute and EyeConnect
Posted by: Martin S on 17 February 2011
the question was raised before, but I'm still looking for a solution.
When the iTunes folder resides on an external drive, EyeConnect (latest release) is not able to see the folder.
Using an iTunes folder on the internal drive works very well.
Any solution for this problem?
I would like to stick with EyeConnect; I'm not interested replacing it with another piece of software.
Thanks for any help,
Martin
A basic tutorial on the manner for accomplishing this can be found on the MacWorld site:

See if this works–I don't use iTunes off-drive, as, unfortunately, this is a known limitation of iTunes storage which is just not worth (to me) working around. Your mileage may vary.
Make sure that itunes has the correct path to the folder -
Itunes can be very fussy but I've never had a problem with using an external drive for storage.

As I have been led to believe if you move your "iTunes Library" file from your computer it won't work.
There are tutorials on the iLounge website explaining this and other things if that's of help too.

When you say "music files" do you mean the whole iTunes folder (containing - ITunes media, iPod games, Album Artwork, iTunes Library file etc) or the "iTunes Media" folder located within the iTunes folder.

Hold down the "alt" key while opening iTunes and you should get a dialogue box with "Choose iTunes Library". You get the choice to create a new library entirely or choose between libraries. If your library is located on your external hard drive you could locate it this way and link it up. Not sure if this will work but worth a try.

/volumes/zeppo/itunes/itunes Music - where zeppo is the name of the firewire drive

The iTunes Media folder (file) is where files ( your music files - MP3, aac etc) are stored but the iTunes Library file is what iTunes uses to catalogue and play the files in the iTunes Media folder.
If I find the appropriate link which describes how iTunes is set up can I post it on this forum - not sure where I stand with the forum rules on that one.

http://www.apple.com/uk/support/itunes/ - look under the iTunes Library and Back-up tab.
As I said on my previous post not sure where I stand posting these but they are useful for both Mac and PC users.
Similar Situation. I have my iTunes Library (so the Library itself and also the Music) on an external drive.
Making a simple Alias (a lot of people call also alias a "Symbolic Link" in Mac OS X but this is technically wrong) on my internal drive did not work. But creating a symbolic link (a real one, not an alias) did solve the problem.
So imagine your iTunes Library resides on an external drive named myExternalDrive and your
iTunes Library is located in the folder called myiTunesLibraryFolder.
1) Stop Eyeconnect (via System Preferences)
2) Go to your Music folder located on your internal drive (~/Music) and rename the existing
iTunes folder to let's say iTunes.local
3) Open the Terminal Application (found under Application/Utilities)
4) now we create the symbolic link via ln -s. In our Case it will be:
4.1) First fo to your Music folder: cd ~/Music
4.2) Now create the link: ln -s /Volumes/myExternalDrive/myiTunesLibraryFolder iTunes
Remark: If you use names wit space e.g my drive then you need to specify the path
to your drive in ' ' e.g. '/Volumes/myExternalDrive/myiTunesLibraryFolder'
5) Restart Eyeconnect
This worked in my case
