Ignorant inquiry about "community points"........
Posted by: Engelbert on 18 February 2011
I know it must be written down somewhere around here but I am both blind and thick today (and on most other days for that matter).
What exactly are "community points" and what does it mean that I have accumulated 8387 of the little blighters? Is anyone to blame for this?
Could they be a threat to my fertility or general health and, if not, are they carbon neutral?
Finally, can I exchange them anywhere for money and, if not, what should I do with them?

Commmunity points are accrued through your activity here on the forum. They can be used to determine some form of heirarchy. Right now any heirarchical differentitation is switched off. Generally, it seemed nobody liked being called "senior member" or "very senior member". So, suggestions for alternatives gratefully received.

And what's the relationship between Community Points and Community Posts? Do longer posts score more points or something like that? Or is there a panel in the background scoring us on technical ability and artistic merit?

My suggestion to spice things up a bit is that we make this the world's first naturist hifi forum with optional webcam facility. We could then assign contributors the titles, 'Seen your member' or 'Not seen your member'.
Waddya think?!!

Now that's pretty easy to solve for a music forum, don't you think?

I reckon the seniority given by making a certain number of posts is s soft idea. It is much more reasonable to all be "members" rather than anything else. Perhaps the number of posts could be put in to the profile for those who are curious, but the leveling that the change from a rating of membership by the post brings is nothing but a good thing in my view.
"Community points" is also a soft idea, especially as we are not seemingly privy to the formula by which such a figure is calculated!

Two titles:
1 Member
2 Grand Pooh Bah; every January 1st the title is bestowed on the maker of the most quality posts during the previous year - that person to be decided by members' telephone votes.*
* I'm happy to set up a for profit line.

Just the number of posts and the members name as thread starter would be a good start.
