Unitiqute - music library search function

Posted by: Nils on 18 February 2011

Hi,

I have just recieved an Unitiqute, it is streaming fine and the sound quality seems to be fantastic.
I am streaming wireless loseless files from an Imac with ITunes and Eyeconnect.

But I am not able to search alphabetic through my library with the Naim remote control, and this is affecting the functionality as I have >500 CD's on my mac. Everytime I try to search by pressing a specific letter when in the Artist listing, the display shows "searching..." and after a while it returns back to the top of the list again (A)...According to Nain this is a problem with the  UPnP server - is there any settings in Eyeconnect or ITunes that will make the search function working ? Should I change to other UPnP alternatives ??

I also have the possibility to stream wired. Will this increase the speed of the Naim  - I feel it takes very long time to connect and start the UPnP / music folder ? My wireless network is fast and only used by my Mac.

And last question; will streaming wired improve the sound quality compared to wireless or would these be equal ??

Cheers

Hi Nils,
a few answers to your questions:

"Should I change to other UPnP alternatives??"  Yes, it's certainly worth a try.  I used to use EyeConnect and never really got on with it.  There are a few other UPnP Mac-based servers to try including iSedora and Allegro.  Members on this forum may suggest others.  I used iSedora and it worked fine for me.

"I also have the possibility to stream wired. Will this increase the speed of my Naim?"  Yes, the delay between connecting to your UPnP server will be greatly reduced.

"will streaming wired improve the sound quality compared to wireless or would these be equal ??"  In theory, they should sound the same.  However, if you can avoid using wireless I'd recommend it.  There's always the risk of dropouts and other interference affecting your wireless network, which you won't get with wired.

One last thing.  You may in future want to consider moving your music off your iMac and onto a dedicated UPnP server connected to your network, leaving your iMac free for other uses.  This is what I did and have never regretted it.  The only downside was that I had to re-encode a lot of my music library from ALAC to FLAC.  After that, it's been plain sailing.

Hello Nils

Welcome, not a lot of direct help, as I do not use iTune, Eyeconnect or wireless. It certainly sounds like a server problem.

However, if you have the chance to connect via a wired connection I would suggest it’s worth trying. This should remove a potential point of problems (and you can loose the aerial), although a good wireless connection should be adequate. As for sound improvement via wired, why not try and tell us what you think?

There have been several discussions about iTunes & Eyeconnect and quick search has provided these threads. https://forums.naimaudio.com/di...Eyeconnect+or+ITunes+

You might like to read a few and see if you gain any insight from them.

Someone will be along soon I’m sure that might have more suggestions for you.

Regard
Peter

Edit: Matthew has beaten me to it!      Please remember to reboot the Qute if you decide to change to a wired connection.
