How to play non-ripped music with HDX?
Posted by: JHP on 19 February 2011
After I have had ripped my collection of CD's into the HDX and NAS, I also want want to listen to a smaller part of my collection, the non-ripped music.
It contains WAV's, FLAC's and MP3 and should be playable with the HDX, I tought.
My intention is to store these files on a shared part of my NAS.
But after several attemps I just can't get it done.
I have already made a share and a music store, but the files are not visible.
Can the HDX only play (by HDX) ripped files?
Is there a possibility to play non-ripped music on the HDX?
Hope someone can help.
Thanks & Greetings!

You can play non ripped music, stored anywhere on your network. The HDX should automatically enable any network shares if their names have the words "music" or MP3.
Can you see the network share (containing the non-ripped files) via the browser or desktop client, within the system set-up menu?

Hi Gerry,
Thank you for your respons.
I can see the share at the desktop client and have the share setup as a music store. The desktop client shows also how many albums the share / music store contains, but no futher information is given (album-info). The albums can not been played, even a surch gives no results.
Are there certain rules when setup a "..\music" map to play non-ripped files?

Hi,
First, from the home screen on the HDX display, navigate to Browse Music / Music Location and make sure All Music is selected. If it is set to the wrong setting, then you may not be able to browse your network shares. Now see if you can see the music on your NAS.
I don't know if you've seen this, but it is useful in setting up network shares:

You cannot add your own files to a Music Store, that one is for exclusive use by HDX. For your own files you need to create Network Shares and not Music Stores.

Well Gerry, thanks for your helpfull reply!
That is where I got it wrong: to make all my shares to a Music Store.
After remove the Music store with non-ripped files, all works fine again.
And a better understanding of the HDX!
Thanks and Greets,
