Help with NAS please

Hi Folks

Can anyone suggest what might have happened with my new NAS?  It's one of the 'approved' NetGear ones.

I set it up as per the instructions, and it was all looking fine.  I could see it and a a couple of the default folders through Windows Explorer.  In iTunes I moved the location of the library from the C: dirve to the NAS and started the consolidating process to copy all the files over to the NAS.  This copied a few over and failed with a copying error.  This was distressing, but I assumed was something I could investigate.  I deleted the files it had copied, but left the basic folder (Media).

My laptop then installed Windows 7 SP1.  On the next boot, it tried to configure Windows Media player.  I resisted making it the default player.

Now, I can't see the NAS in Windows Explorer (under Network) - or at least in the 'expanding tree' in the left hand frame.  If I click on Network, it shows my laptop, my Qute (as a player) and the NAS twice in the right hand side.  Of the two NAS icons, one opens up the admin page in IE and the other 'appears' to be storage for Windows Media player.  I can't see any of the folder structure on the NAS.

I appreciate this is probably poorly explained, but has anyone any ideas?

Thanks

Gavin

I would login as admin to the NAS and check users, permissions and NAS folder properties to make sure the user on your laptop has access rights to the folder on the NAS.

If everything is fine, then I would try to "map" the NAS folders from the laptop. This is done from within windows explorer. The feature was called "Map Network Drive" in prior Windows version. Hopefully the same name in Windows 7.

Yes the "Map Network Drive" feature is similar in Windows 7 although it shows separately rather than being within "Tools".

The Admin page in your browser should enable you to access the NAS to check for "shares" i.e. folders that were installed as default on your NAS.
