Interesting article on BBC Watchdog about HDMI cables

i remain unconvinced that anything other than a well made cable is relevant in the digital domain.  I accept suppressing RFI and EMI is good. I have no problem if people decide to spend their hard earned cash of boutique digital cables.

I have no way of knowing if somebody else can hear an improvement from using such cables. So i am not disputing some may.

I do find it sad when companies resort to techno-babble to baffle consumers, so any move to stop this is good in my book. As Joe Friday used to say "just the facts".

We've not discussed the pro's and con's of expensive digital cables in hours

(I took a few hours holiday and saw that the last big thread vanished.  I guess that I missed some drama.)

Wat, as the Watchdog piece was about a particular high street store and their staff not really understanding the advantages or otherwise of premium HDMI cables over the freebies, I have slightly amended your post to add in "HDMI" where appropriate and also moved it to the appropriate room.

As you (and Joe Friday) say, "just the facts"...

Bart, the ethernet cable thread has been removed for review following receipt of a complaint from a member. This is forum protocol.  I wouldn't hold your breath awaiting its return...

I always say, why spend $8 on a well made HDMi cable from Monoprice, et al. when you can get one from Monster, et al. that works just as well for 10 times the cost.

Yep build quality, contacts, and shielding. All good stuff. And costly.
